Job Title: Process Coach – Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L) Job Description

The Process Coach – MP&L leads daily material handling operations and supports the safe, efficient, and high-quality flow of materials through the facility. This role coaches and develops team leaders and team members, drives standardization and continuous improvement, and ensures that material flows seamlessly from receiving through production to finished goods delivery. The Process Coach actively supports lean manufacturing practices, oversees unionized hourly personnel, and ensures flawless implementation of new parts and engineering changes.

• Coach safety, quality, and productivity to ensure operational objectives are met by following standardized processes and addressing issues as they arise.
• Act as the first responder and secondary support for safety, quality, or productivity occurrences on the line.
• Conduct regular process confirmation to verify that production lines run safely, smoothly, and consistently produce quality parts.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and coach problem resolution to the lowest appropriate level in the organization.
• Communicate effectively with team leaders and team members, providing clear direction, feedback, and recognition.
• Build the capability of team leaders and team members through ongoing coaching, mentoring, and training.
• Create and maintain a conducive work environment that enables teams to complete their assigned responsibilities and tasks effectively.
• Perform basic administrative and supervisory responsibilities, including documentation and recordkeeping related to daily operations.
• Oversee daily material handling functions for the facility and assigned department, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
• Ensure proper material flow from the receiving dock to warehouse storage locations, to production line feed points, and through to the delivery of finished products to customers.
• Provide direction and support in allocating resources to ensure all material handling responsibilities are appropriately covered.
• Support the production system and synchronous material flow by applying lean manufacturing practices.
• Lead and manage unionized hourly personnel, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and holding employees accountable for safety, quality, and throughput standards.
• Ensure the flawless introduction of new parts into production through proactive planning and cross-functional communication.
• Effectively implement the engineering change process, ensuring changes are integrated into production with minimal disruption.
• Identify data gaps in the computerized maintenance or production tracking systems (such as missed production counts) and take corrective actions to resolve them.
• Work 2nd shift (Monday through Friday) and be available to work at least two weekends per month, as well as rotating shifts when required.

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Ability to work any shift, including rotating shifts and weekends, with a specific focus on 2nd shift operations.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing daily responsibilities.
• Demonstrated capability to assign work to unionized hourly employees and hold them accountable for following established safety, quality, and throughput processes.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills to manage documentation, scheduling, and operational tasks.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Effective conflict management skills to address and resolve workplace issues constructively.
• Demonstrated leadership behaviors with strong interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills.
• Experience or skills in logistics, material flow, and supervisory responsibilities.
• Familiarity with supply chain concepts and practices.
• Basic knowledge or experience with SAP or similar enterprise systems.
• Ability to coach and develop team leaders and team members in safety, quality, and productivity.

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Operations, Transportation & Logistics, Supply Chain Management & Information Systems, Applied Engineering Science, Packaging Engineering, Business Management, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience in body shop, stamping, subassembly, manufacturing assembly, or machining environments is desired.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their application in production and material handling.
• Safety and material planning & logistics (MP&L) experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of constraint management principles and their impact on production flow.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience supporting synchronous material flow in a production system environment.
• Prior experience leading or managing unionized hourly personnel.
• Experience working with engineering change processes and new part introductions.

The role is based in a manufacturing facility that operates on multiple shifts, with this position primarily assigned to 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, and requiring availability for at least two weekends per month and potential rotating shifts. The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. The work involves close interaction with production lines, material handling operations, and warehouse areas, ensuring a smooth flow of materials from receiving to finished goods. The Process Coach collaborates with unionized hourly personnel, team leaders, and cross-functional teams while supporting lean manufacturing practices and synchronous material flow. Technologies and tools used may include SAP or similar enterprise systems, computerized maintenance or production tracking systems, and Microsoft Office for reporting and communication. The facility promotes a structured, standardized work environment where adherence to processes and safety protocols is essential.

This is a Contract position based out of Woodhaven, MI.

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $40.00/hr.
