Senior Industrial Designer

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Senior Industrial Designer to lead user-centered design for its Single Port robotic surgery platform. The role combines strategic product development, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on design execution to create intuitive surgical systems from concept through production.

Responsibilities

• Lead or collaborate on design projects using user-centered process to frame problems and define opportunities
• Develop design solutions synthesizing usability, manufacturability, ergonomics, and desirability across product lifecycle
• Partner with engineering, clinical, and product teams to generate conceptual designs and validate choices
• Create functional and appearance prototypes; deliver manufacturable design proposals to engineering
• Participate in user research, usability testing, and clinical labs; communicate design vision through presentations

Requirements

• 8+ years professional industrial design experience
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Design
• Extensive SolidWorks expertise; complex surfacing experience preferred
• Demonstrated proficiency in prototyping from low-fidelity to functional models
• Strong 2D and 3D visualization, sketching, and digital rendering skills
• Deep knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, DFM and DFA principles
• Medical device design or regulated product experience preferred
