The Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Relief Veterinarian to support our Veterinary Services team on an as-needed basis. Whether you're supplementing your current practice, transitioning into shelter medicine, or simply looking for rewarding relief opportunities, you'll have the chance to make an immediate impact on the lives of homeless animals while working alongside an experienced, collaborative veterinary team. What You'll Do Performing high-volume spay/neuter surgeries Conducting physical examinations and diagnostics Diagnosing illnesses and developing treatment plans Administering vaccinations and preventive care Performing additional surgical procedures within your expertise Collaborating with veterinary technicians, assistants, and animal care staff Maintaining accurate electronic medical records Helping animals become healthy and ready for adoption, foster, or transfer Performing humane euthanasia when medically appropriate and in accordance with organizational policies We're Looking For Someone Who... Holds an active, unrestricted Florida veterinary license Has a DVM (or equivalent) from an accredited veterinary school Is confident performing routine canine and feline surgeries Has excellent clinical judgment and communication skills Enjoys working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Shares our commitment to compassionate, high-quality animal care Experience in shelter medicine or high-volume spay/neuter surgery is preferred but not required.
