Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for a night shift position at a teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of adult critical care experience and floating between Adult and NICU units.

Details

• Respiratory Therapy department at a short-term acute care teaching hospital
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 18:30-7:00)
• Every other weekend required with holiday coverage expected
• No on-call requirement
• Float between Adult and NICU units as needed
• Uses Draeger V500, Draeger VN500, and Servo U ventilators
• Charts in Cerner

Requirements

• Current BLS certification
• CRT certification required; RRT preferred
• MD State license or compact license required (license required if applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of experience as an RRT in Adult Critical Care within the last 7 years
• NICU experience preferred
• ED experience preferred
• ACLS and PALS preferred
• NRP certification required
• Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Comfortable drawing and analyzing ABGs and interpreting results
• Skilled in airway management including endotracheal/tracheostomy suctioning, extubation, and airway placement
• Experience with ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
• Experience with a range of respiratory medications including bronchodilators and inhaled steroids
• Bronchoscopy experience preferred
• Experience assisting in high-risk deliveries and umbilical blood gas collection

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive respiratory care including airway management, suctioning, and pulmonary hygiene
• Administer nebulizer treatments, MDIs, and various respiratory medications
• Perform ventilator management and monitor for high-pressure alarms
• Assist with high-risk deliveries and neonatal respiratory care as part of NICU float duties
• Collect and interpret arterial and umbilical blood gases
• Teaching hospital and member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH)
• Scrubs not provided; ceil blue scrub color required
• Local candidates accepted within 60 miles of the facility at a reduced rate
• First-time travelers not considered; at least 1 prior travel assignment required
• Former MedStar employees must have a minimum 1-year separation before returning as a traveler
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment
• RTO limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract
