Watts & Associates is working discreetly with a national full service firm recognized in Chambers USA seeking a mid level Intellectual Property Associate Patent Prosecution to join its Chicago office on a remote basis.
This is a high impact role within a respected intellectual property team handling sophisticated patent portfolios for technology and life sciences clients. You will work closely with experienced partners, enjoy meaningful responsibility for drafting and strategy, and build a credible long term platform for advancement within a nationally recognized practice.

The Role
- Prepare and prosecute United States patent applications for complex chemical, molecular biology, and related technologies
- Draft patentability and clearance opinions and support broader patent enforcement and licensing strategies
- Manage aspects of client patent estates and contribute to strategic portfolio planning and maintenance
- Interface directly with sophisticated clients and inventors to capture inventions and advise on protection strategies
- Collaborate closely with partners while taking substantive ownership of drafting, analysis, and client deliverables
Ideal Candidate Profile
The firm is seeking a mid level Intellectual Property Associate Patent Prosecution with:
- At least 3 years of post qualification patent preparation and prosecution experience
- Substantial experience with patent matters involving chemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics, or biomedical engineering
- Admission to the Illinois Bar and registration to practice before the USPTO
- Strong academic credentials from a Top 50 law school and an advanced technical degree preferred
- Ability to work in office 5 days per week with strong client communication and independent work habits
Compensation & Benefits
- $215,000 to $260,000 base salary depending on experience and credentials
- Eligibility for performance based bonus
- Comprehensive benefits and bonuses package
- Less than 10% travel expectation
