Introduction The mission of the Division of Transportation Solutions is to provide excellence in transportation by developing, constructing, and maintaining the State's infrastructure in a manner that results in a safe, cost-effective, and efficient multi-modal transportation network that enhances mobility, commerce, and livability. In addition, Transportation Solutions provides high‑quality support services to other divisions in the department. Summary Statement This position is assigned to the Transportation Management Center, a 24‑hour planning, engineering, and transportation operations facility. The position is responsible for operating multiple traffic control, monitoring, and traveler information systems; coordinating incident and event planning; and supporting general dispatch operations. The work schedule is a rotating shift that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during incidents or emergency operations. Applicants will work closely with the public by addressing concerns and answering questions on behalf of the Department. Essential Functions Inspects infrastructures to ensure compliance with design plans, materials specifications, safety requirements, construction processes, local, state, and federal codes, and ongoing maintenance requirements; documents and reports compliance or deficiencies. Designs, develops, or reviews engineering project or site layouts, alignments, profiles, studies, graphs, and other related activities. Compiles and records notes, sketches, test results, inspection data, and other information to document compliance and/or develop designs, specifications, reports, maps, and other geographically based data. Conducts various studies to be used by others to analyze needs or develop plans, record characteristics, and other related activities. Conducts data analysis to determine accuracy of data collected, develop recommendations, develop corrective designs, and/or ensure compliance. Tests or evaluates the quality of materials or designs to verify adherence to contracts and specifications. Obtains survey data such as angles, elevations, points, and contours using electronic distance‑measuring equipment and other surveying instruments. Calculates or measures area and volume dimensions, horizontal and vertical geometry, profile and component specifications, and material‑testing dimensions using calculators or computers. Operates computer‑assisted drafting equipment or other tools of the trade, and uses automated information systems and computer software to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve, and report on data. Reads and interprets plans, specifications, blueprints, and other engineering documents. Performs other related duties as required. Job Requirement Series Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician II Six months experience in applied mathematical computations. Six months experience in interpreting construction plans and details, schematics, or technical drawings. Knowledge of using intelligent transportation systems to perform transportation management, which includes optimizing the efficiency of traffic flow and operations. Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of traffic management solutions in responding to planned events and non‑recurring incidents that impede normal traffic flow. Knowledge of evaluating the effectiveness of traffic control methods and devices including signs or pavement markings. Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician III Six months experience in using intelligent transportation systems to perform transportation management, which includes optimizing the efficiency of traffic flow and operations. Six months experience in evaluating the effectiveness of traffic control methods and devices including signs or pavement markings. Six months experience in interpreting construction plans and details, schematics, or technical drawings. Six months experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of traffic management solutions in responding to planned events and non‑recurring incidents that impede normal traffic flow. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data. Knowledge of analyzing the cause of and remedies for high‑risk traffic conditions. Knowledge of project management, which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating projects to ensure objectives are met. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). Conditions of Hire Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
