Compliance Specialist I

International Student Services (ISS) seeks an individual committed to international student transition and immigration compliance support in a fast-paced, high demand environment. This position is primarily responsible for the accurate and timely processing of immigration document requests for incoming (admitted) students seeking F-1 or J-1 student immigration status. This position entails compliance, data, and immigration document production with limited in-person student interaction. Strong attention to detail, ability to follow established procedures, and commitment to student data privacy and data integrity are required. Regular collaboration with various admitting units, campus departments, and government agencies is expected. A successful candidate will adapt well to changing processes and technological solutions.

This position reports to the assistant director for compliance and is an essential member of the Compliance Team (8 staff) within the ISS office (24 staff). ISS serves over 7,000 F/J nonimmigrant students and over 2,000 alumni on post-completion employment authorization, in addition to the J-1 student intern program. We utilize Terra Dotta ISSS batch software to maintain F/J international student compliance and communications. We support a hybrid work environment which does typically require three days of in-person service per week.

Provides administrative support for compliance related correspondence and assists in policy interpretations for a designated group or affiliate population in support of maintaining the regulatory compliance of the program.

Job Responsibilities:

• Connects target populations with compliance resources to assist with interpreting laws, regulations, and best practices; and communicates with customers to provide information or answer questions (45%)
• Support immigration compliance updates and reporting by serving as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
• Advise admitted international students via Information Request, phone, and email
• Tracks and maintains records of compliance through various mediums (45%)
• Review bio-demographic, financial, and immigration documentation for F/J student immigration document production and compliance updates
• Perform routine immigration status updates, data compliance audits, and Terra Dotta process maintenance and improvements
• Provides logistical office support to complete operational tasks (10%)
• Collaborate with various admitting units, campus departments, and government agencies

Department: International Division, International Student Services (ISS)

Compensation: $25.00/hour

Required Qualifications:

• Strong organization skills and attention to detail to maintain a high caseload of time-sensitive immigration requests
• Friendly customer service in a fast-paced environment with competing demands
• Ability to follow established procedures for consistent and equitable practices in immigration document production and data review
• Demonstrated experience navigating various technological systems to perform routine tasks
• Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and engagement to support students from a variety of backgrounds
• Demonstrated competencies to solve complex problems in multilingual or cross-cultural contexts
• Position requires proof of U.S. citizenship/legal permanent residence to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), per Department of Homeland Security.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) experience
• Experience with Terra Dotta ISSS software
• Experience with PeopleSoft Student Information System
• Experience living, working, or studying abroad
• Proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English

Education:

• Bachelor's degree preferred in international relations, global education, business administration, data science or related field
