The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) delivers direct, intensive behavior support services to students within the district. Collaborating with educators and support team members, the RBT executes behavior support plans for students needing ongoing, substantial behavioral assistance throughout the school day. Candidates must fulfill all criteria necessary for RBT certification. While this role is focused on behavior rather than instructional support, the RBT may offer supplementary academic assistance as required.

Qualifications:

• Registered Behavior Technician certification, as evidenced by completion of the RBT training course and examination, as well as participation in the district provided crisis intervention training.
• Formal training in theories of Applied Behavioral Analysis, or Behavioral Support Interventions
• Valid Drivers License

Description of Essential Duties:

• Apply core Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles within classroom environments as guided by BCBA, Special Education Teacher, Social Worker, and/or Psychologist.
• Evaluate student needs and execute targeted interventions to redirect behavior effectively.
• Gather and submit essential data for Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• Execute BIPs to achieve positive behavioral outcomes.
• Maintain thorough familiarity with multiple BIPs to implement and track interventions for students simultaneously.
• Consult directly with the BCBA regarding data analysis and suggest updates or adjustments to BIPs.
• Demonstrate BIP implementation strategies for educational paraprofessionals and instructional staff.
• Teach and model functional communication,
• Provide district-trained physical interventions as necessary when students exhibit unsafe behaviors.
• Execute and document safety intervention protocols in compliance with district policy and applicable guidelines, and complete required annual district crisis intervention training.
• Serve as an active member of the school building crisis team.
• Participate in team meetings upon request.
• Attend scheduled department meetings alongside the BCBA, special education team, and Educational Support Professionals (ESPs).
• Ensure consistent application of BIPs through active communication and collaboration with teachers and support staff.
• Support diverse student populations across a broad range of age groups and multiple school locations as needed throughout the academic year, as directed by school and District administration, case managers, or BCBA's.
• Assist students with personal care and specialized physical needs, including feeding, diapering, toileting, and routine hygiene support.
• Supervise and engage individual and/or groups of students with disabilities in a variety of settings (e.g., classrooms, restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus-loading zones, cafeterias, assemblies, field trips, transportation, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of work with students with disabilities and other staff.
• Assist students who may have transportation needs, including, but not limited to, securing students who have adaptive equipment,( i.e., harnesses, wheelchairs, etc.).
• Safely perform physical movements including bending, navigating stairs, rising from the floor, and lifting up to 50 pounds with ease. This position involves periods of rigorous physical activity.

Physical Demands:

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to and more than 50 pounds while performing essential job functions and duties.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to: lift, bend, squat, crouch, sit, walk, hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch controls of technology equipment.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• This position involves periods of rigorous physical activity.

Work Environment:

• The work environment is that of a school classroom, instructional classroom setting, washrooms, business office, and other school facilities.
• The noise level of the work environment is moderate to noisy.
