Patient Care Tech or Certified Nursing Assistant – Emergency Department (Nights – Full Time) Position Summary Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the ECC Patient Care Tech prepares for and assists with ECC procedures and patient care consistent with their knowledge and skill level. Non‑patient care duties, such as restocking and cleaning, are also part of the job. Responsibilities vary with the types of patients presenting to the ECC. The ECC PCT must be organized, able to correctly prioritize tasks, and use appropriate decision‑making skills. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Facilitate optimal patient flow by preparing, cleaning, and stocking treatment rooms, transferring patients to and from the Emergency Care Center, and assisting patients in and out of vehicles as needed. Maintain a safe and clean environment through proper cleaning of equipment, use of infection control techniques, reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment, tracking and disposing of outdated supplies, and monitoring availability of equipment and supplies such as wheelchairs, beds, IV pumps, and storeroom items. Assist RN/Physician/PA with patient care duties, including cast/splint application, suturing, lumbar punctures, discontinuing peripheral IVs and urinary catheters, Holter monitoring placement and return instructions, ECG and MUSE editing/management, spinal immobilization, post‑mortem care, and communicating actions to the RN. Make rounds on patients, answer call lights immediately using excellent customer‑service techniques, and promptly report any unusual incidents or changes in a patient’s condition or behavior to the appropriate personnel. Obtain and document vital signs, orthostatic vital signs, urine dip testing, and blood glucose monitoring, reporting all changes to the appropriate RN. Accurately collect and label all specimens and transport them to the lab as indicated. May document valuables for patients being admitted. Upon completion of phlebotomy training, demonstrate working knowledge and skills for phlebotomy, including accurate labeling of specimens, and assist in maintaining necessary supply of blood tubes from the lab. Understand the First Net tracking board icons and associated tasks essential for efficient patient care and patient flow. Demonstrate accurate prioritization skills for stat/now orders, answering and placing phone calls, recognizing and reporting critical lab values, and recognizing emergent patient needs. Understand management and follow‑up to ensure ordered testing reaches the patient. Print and maintain hard copies of inpatient orders, maintain competency of order entry, and follow computer downtime procedure and future order requirements. Practice excellent telephone etiquette and skills when responding to all phone calls. Perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Required Education and Experience High School Graduate or GED, or currently enrolled in a high‑school or GED program. And one of the following: Hold a CNA license or have completed the Gold Standard Intern Program. Have documentation of fundamentals of nursing courses. Have a minimum of 18 months in a relevant patient care role.
