Senior Engineer - Transportation Planning

Help create embedded software for complex medical, life-science and diagnostic products that improve health outcomes. At Invetech, you will work across the full product development lifecycle, from early technical concepts through detailed design, verification, validation and transfer to manufacture. We are looking for a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, and building reliable software for products where quality, safety and usability matter. Invetech is a global product development and engineering consultancy with more than 35 years of experience helping clients bring innovative healthcare and life-science technologies to market. We combine creativity, commercial understanding and deep technical expertise to develop products that make a meaningful difference for patients, clinicians, scientists and the communities they serve. Our teams work at the intersection of software, electronics, mechanics, systems engineering, human factors and regulated product development. As a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer, you will help shape the software architecture and implementation of embedded systems used in advanced healthcare and life-science products. This is a role for someone who wants technical challenge, product impact and the opportunity to work on varied projects rather than a narrow single-product remit. Contribute to firmware architecture, subsystem design and hardware/software interface definition. Develop high-quality software using structured software development lifecycle practices, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, reviews, testing, verification and documentation. Work closely with electronics, systems, mechanical, quality and project teams to deliver integrated product solutions. Debug software and hardware interactions using appropriate tools, test equipment and engineering judgement. Support unit testing, integration testing, verification activities and defect resolution. Help plan and adapt work within Agile or iterative development environments as product needs evolve. Support continuous improvement of software engineering practices and tools to improve quality and delivery. High proficiency in at least one relevant programming language, such as C, modern C++, C#/.NET or similar. Experience with formal software development processes and disciplined engineering practices. Experience with debugging, code review, documentation, unit testing, integration and verification. Ability to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary project teams. Embedded C or C++ development for microcontroller-based systems. Experience with RTOS, embedded Linux, device drivers or low-level hardware interfaces. Scripting or test automation using languages such as Python or Lua. Requirements management, configuration management, defect tracking and project planning tools. Medical device or other regulated product development experience. Experience with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, FDA software documentation, cybersecurity or safety-related development practices. Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and their appropriate use in engineering workflows. A culture that recognizes individual contribution, celebrates project milestones and shares success across teams. ~ Hybrid working from our San Diego office. ~ Comprehensive employee assistance program. ~ If you want to build reliable embedded software for meaningful healthcare and life-science products, we would love to hear from you. We believe everyone deserves the same opportunities in life, regardless of gender or identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, or age.
