Maintenance Unit Leader

Job Summary The Maintenance Unit Leader leads and directs skilled trades employees to meet the objectives of the maintenance department in a fast‑paced, high‑volume, unionized, manufacturing environment. The incumbent coordinates safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale initiatives, drives throughput improvements, and supports both professional and breakdown maintenance activities while coaching and mentoring team members in World Class Manufacturing techniques. Responsibilities Possess a general level of technical understanding related to maintenance, time‑based maintenance (TBM), condition‑based maintenance (CBM), and dynamic maintenance (DM). Influence KPI’s, MTBF, MTTR, and maintain equipment at basic conditions while effecting continuous improvement. Address throughput, run‑to‑run, and downtime issues with equipment in a production environment, supported by the Maintenance Planner where applicable. Direct supervision of the Skilled Trades. Work with Skilled Trades staff to drive waste reduction through Stellantis Industrial System (SIS) implementation – Autonomous Maintenance (AM), Professional Maintenance (PM), Quality Maintenance (QM), Focus Improvement (FI), and People Development (PD). Actively participate in and lead Kaizen projects focused on OEE improvement and waste reduction opportunities identified through cost deployment. Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 3 years of industrial automation experience with project management experience. Ability to work any shift and overtime as required. Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with employees at all levels, from hourly workers to senior leadership, as required. Ability to build effective relationships with plant leadership and customers. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem‑solving experience. Goal‑oriented self‑starter with ability to lead teams. Ability to coach, mentor, and develop skilled trade employees. Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a technical/engineering field. Experience in continuous improvement systems and lean manufacturing. Experience leading maintenance teams in a union environment. Green Belt/Red X/Six Sigma training. Experience with controls, drives, system‑level communication systems, milling, drilling, tapping, boring, grinding, turning, roll forming, assembly, pressing, torquing, robotics, and automatic parts conveyance of cast‑iron and cast‑aluminum components.
