Transportation Director

Director of Transportation The Director of Transportation, as a member of the administrative team, is responsible for the hiring, supervision and training of the transportation staff. In addition, the Director oversees the overall maintenance of the school department fleet of vehicles. This position reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools. Required Qualifications High school diploma or HiSET Excellent communication skills Strong organizational skills Excellent written communication skills Supervisory experience Ability to work independently, as a member of a team, and as a department leader General knowledge of vehicle maintenance and systems Must be able to prepare and present a departmental budget Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with staff, students and parents, as well as outside vendors. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality about all aspects of student and staff information. Primary Duties Report to and work with the Superintendent of Schools, the administrative team and the school committee to inform of transportation issues including, but not limited to, scheduling, needed repairs, routine maintenance, etc. Perform supervision of all transportation staff. This includes, but is not limited to, hiring, scheduling, finding substitutes, performing evaluations, following up on certifications and physicals, etc. Develop and implement bus routes and driver scheduling, including schedules for substitutes and extra curricular activities. Implement and monitor the purchase and maintenance of school transportation vehicles including upkeep of registration and insurance. Research and present cost effective maintenance and upgrade options to the Superintendent of Schools. Prepare and present the annual departmental budget. Review and prepare all departmental invoices for payment. Be willing to learn new skills and accept new challenges by attending classes, professional development, and training as needed or requested, and apply the knowledge gained. Communicate effectively with staff, families and vendors using both verbal and written communication skills. Maintain a positive attitude and work relationship with all school department constituents. Perform office administrative duties including answering the phone and checking the answering machines as needed. Provide support and tools to drivers to ensure safe driving practices. Communicate student behavior issues and concerns with the building administrator.
