Job Description
ParalympicsGB's vision is: Through Sport, inspire a better world for disabled people. We pursue world-leading performance at the Paralympic Games and leverage that to drive social impact and inspire a better world for disabled people. Our Non-Executive Directors are committed to creating the best performance environment possible while also being committed to improving the lives of disabled people and promoting inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility for all. We're seeking candidates with the right experience to support us in our journey towards the LA 2028 Paralympic Games Cycle and beyond. We are particularly interested to hear from people with significant finance experience who are chartered accountants, and candidates with significant business leadership experience. This voluntary role would bring a leadership perspective to the work of the Board in these areas and provide guidance and support to the relevant teams at ParalympicsGB. It would strongly suit someone with experience as a senior strategic leader. Previous non-executive experience is desirable but not essential. If our vision excites you, if you have relevant experience and expertise, and if you can commit your time to providing guidance, support and constructive challenge, we'd welcome your application to the role. Details on the role and the application process are provided below. Should you wish to have an informal discussion about the role before applying, contact details are provided.
About Us
We are ParalympicsGB. As the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for Great Britain and Northern Ireland, it is our responsibility to select, prepare, enter, fund and manage the ParalympicsGB team at each Summer and Winter Paralympic Games. Championing Change, our 2022-32 strategy, sets the long-term direction for ParalympicsGB and reflects our near-term opportunities and challenges, setting ambitions for a ten-year period. London 2012 kindled a passion for disability sport and demonstrated the power of the Paralympics to inspire a shift in perceptions of disability and ability. This strategy builds on that through the continued success of ParalympicsGB and by delivering real and sustainable improvements to the lives of disabled people across the UK over the next ten years. This is epitomised by our Equal Play Campaign.
Person specification
We're keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate skills and experience in the following areas:
- Proven senior-level strategic leadership experience.
- Relevant experience or qualification in at least one of the following areas: Accountancy and Finance or Business Leadership.
- Strong ability to build and maintain successful stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent communication and presentational skills.
- A commitment to creating the best performance environment possible for our athletes and using their fantastic performances to inspire change in society.
- A commitment to improving the lives of disabled people, as well as promoting inclusion, equity, and diversity more broadly.
- An ability to commit the required time to the role.
- A keen interest in Paralympic sport.
- Chartered Accountancy Qualification
- Experience of work that creates social impact or is purpose driven.
- Direct or indirect lived experience of disability.
- Previous experience as a Non-Executive Director or Trustee.
Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility
ParalympicsGB welcomes applications from everyone. We have a strong commitment to Board diversity including, but not limited to, gender parity, ethnic diversity and disability. We therefore particularly encourage applications from women, disabled people, and individuals from ethnically diverse communities.
