Adjunct Instructor - Construction Pathway

Position Overview Number of Vacancies: TBD Employment Status: Part -Time, Temporary Pay Plan, Series & Grade: ES0000/0000/01 Salary Range: varies depending on assignment Closing Date: Open Until Filled Location: 5171 South Dakota Avenue, N.E. Washington, DC 20017 The University of the District of Columbia is a public land grant institution of higher learning dedicated to providing quality, career focused undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to launch, enhance, or change careers. This role requires teaching all assigned classes and hours as determined by the semester course schedule. Instructors will prepare and deliver curriculum using a variety of teaching methods, including lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects, to teach courses in: 1) general construction 2) electrical 3) carpentry 4) plumbing 5) HVAC 6) building information modeling 7) blueprint reading 8) construction mathematics 9) apartment maintenance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide hands‑on, guided, differentiated instruction to students enrolled in the courses as specified in the schedule and course contract. Participate in evaluating and selecting assigned texts and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans. Conduct efficient and effective classroom management. Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria. Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students in a timely manner. Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real‑world applications of concepts covered. Regularly communicate and refer students to university and division‑wide student success opportunities, resources, services, events, and information to assist students in removing and/or mitigating barriers to employment to achieve their educational and career goals. Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, and submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the institution. Provide an educational environment conducive to learning, establishing and maintaining classroom control. Encourage students to submit course evaluation surveys, review the results, and use feedback to improve course delivery. Attend all required meetings to stay abreast of all pathway‑specific and division‑wide policies, requirements, and expectations. Review and adhere to the WDLL “Faculty/Instructor guide”. Meet with the Dean or Pathway Director as needed to discuss all aspects of the course, including student progress and curriculum development, on a regular basis. Adhere to university and division‑specific policies and guidelines in all matters concerning academics and student and staff conduct. Provide student progress reports to the Pathway Director. Minimum Job Requirements Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in subject matter area. Prior teaching experience in the subject field/industry or evidence of teaching potential. Current certification in the subject matter (must match the course taught). Familiarity with subject‑area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures. Employment Conditions and Benefits Condition of Employment: Temporary employment may be ended at any time with or without cause. Collective Bargaining Unit: Depending on certain criteria, this position may be eligible for representation and require payment of union fees through direct payroll deduction. Employment Benefits: Due to the temporary nature of this appointment, the position is ineligible for benefits.
