Manufacturing Engineering InternThe Team:As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern for Global Automation, you will be exposed to various positions and assignments in plant and corporate staff locations throughout the United States sought to cultivate development and to educate.What You'll Do:Positions the organization are hands-on and engaging. You will learn problem solving on the fly, to work collaboratively with many members of the team, and interface with new and exciting technologies. Most assignments will be located in Warren, MI, strategic partners around Southeast Michigan, or manufacturing sites in Michigan. Examples of Manufacturing Engineering assignments available include:Analyze product, process, and technology to craft best methods to assemble vehicles, and protect the manufacturing processRecommend and validate improvement for existing processesSupport evaluation of innovative technologies to address current manufacturing challengesDevelop tools to improve program/project managementSupport implementation of cybersecurity tools for manufacturingAssist in the design, build, and validation of tools and equipmentProgramming of manufacturing technologyAssist maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of specialized equipmentTroubleshoots special maintenance and equipment problemsCoordinate machinery and equipment upgrade projectsAbout the Roles & Responsibilities:Develop processes, equipment, and tools for 50 Assembly, 30+ Stamping, and 30 Propulsion Plants, and approximately 30 launches each year globallyProgram & Integrate Software and Hardware on industrial automation equipment. Including but not limited to Rockwell & Siemens PLCs + HMIs, Fanuc Robots, vision guidance systems & various other automation control devices.Understand current automation safety standards and ensure they are upheldCollaborate with other centers to reduce energy and waste globallyAssist in the development of new software, hardware & error proofing standards to reduce cost and improve efficienciesReview, update & approve wiring diagrams for various systems & networksDrive collaboration with equipment suppliers to ensure first time quality and on time delivery, installation and runoff of automation equipmentRequired Qualifications:Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in one of the following areas: Automation, Automotive, Computer/Computer Science/Computer Animation, Construction Management, Industrial, Information Technology, Kinesiology, Machine Learning, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Software, or equivalentMust be graduating December 2027 and June 2029Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer monthsMust be willing to work any shift, potentially including weekendsMust be willing to work in a plant environmentWhat will give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications):Insatiable curiosity and desire to learnPrior experience in field of studyConceptual understanding and/or experience in any of the following:Controls – software, hardware development or executionDeveloping tools, equipment, or processes such as layoutsExposure to manufacturing processes: components to product assemblySimulation/Game design or developmentArtificial intelligence, machine learning, machine vision equipment or systemsAutomation or automated equipment such as conveyance or roboticsInformation Technology or Network designConstruction or installation planning, process, or executionHuman factors, ergonomicsConsistently demonstrates innovative thinking that is customer-centricAble to work independently and with a teamOutstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization and external partnersEmerging partnership and collaboration skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environmentHigh level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directedKnowledge of statistical methods as applied to experimental design and process developmentJob locations can be at Manufacturing Engineering headquarters in Warren, Michigan or in various plant locations throughout the U.S. Plant locations may include:Warren, MIDetroit-Hamtramck, MIBrownstown, MIBay City, MIFlint, MILansing, MIOrion, MIMilford, MIFort Wayne, INArlington, TXBowling Green, KYSpring Hill, TNWentzville, MOFairfax, KSToledo, OHParma, OHTravel varies based on assignment and may be required to strategic partners and plants.GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
