About the Position The Prince George’s County Office of Central Services is currently seeking a qualified applicant to fill the HVAC Technician I/II (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning Technician 1A) grade A17/19 position within the Facilities Operation and Management Division. This entry‑level, skilled, and manual role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of heating, cooling, and ventilating (HVAC) systems used within County buildings, offices, and facilities, primarily under close supervision. Responsibilities Installs, repairs, and maintains HVAC and refrigeration units in County buildings and structures. Responds to service requests to determine appropriate action. Responds to and resolves service complaints. Reports routine and emergency HVAC‑related issues within County buildings. Reviews and completes documentation associated with daily performance. Observes all safety rules and practices as established by OSHA, the State of Maryland, and the County. Performs additional tasks as needed that align with the occupational category and responsibility level. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED and completion of an apprentice‑level HVACR vocational training program; licensed as an HVAC journeyman. Valid journeyman license issued by the Maryland Board of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors. Valid state‑issued driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Three (3) years of HVAC field experience or one (1) year of HVAC work experience with a completed accredited HVAC training program. Experience servicing, maintaining, installing, and repairing various HVAC systems (split systems, rooftop units, heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, etc.). Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems, Johnson Controls – Metasys Software, and/or Siemens. Conditions of Employment Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate required proficiency. Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment. Pass pre‑employment checks, including reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings. Maintain a valid driver’s license with six or fewer points. Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee (report during standard or non‑standard hours and during emergencies).
