Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Sonographer

Performs sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities include reviewing patient history, physician's orders and scheduling, educating patients regarding procedures, preparing and administering contrast media and/or medications, monitoring patient condition, preparing equipment and supplies, selecting appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters, implementing safety standards, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, positioning patients, performing imaging procedures, analyzing results, and entering scan results.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Requirements include being a registered sonographer, ARRT Sonography (S), graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technologist program or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program, registered as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Vascular Technologist (RVT), or Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or certified in Sonography (S) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), state licensure if required by law, and Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
