Certified Medical Assistant
The CMA will support the clinic's primary function is to provide occupational health services such as job related physical, fit for duty evaluation, immunizations in accordance with DOD/DLA Regulation/Instructions, OPM Classification and Qualification Standards and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, as well as minor work-related medical care for workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Provide services complaint with Clinic Standard Operating Procedures
- Provide phlebotomy services, including venipuncture and specimen collection, labeling, and processing, as well as facilitating timely and accurate blood work, documentation, and specimen transport
- Comply with the Clinic's Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards on communicable diseases
- Track missed medical appointments and refusal of medical services via computer.
- Provide services compliant with applicable OSHA standards. All interpretations of standards involving OSHA compliance will rest with the DLA Installation Support at Richmond, Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Office. The COR/COTR/KO will have the right to inspect the Clinic for compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations during normal business hours.
- Assist with fitness for duty physical within five working days from the date of the request
- Assist with Medical Case Management as needed
- Assist with Examinations after Unexpected Events for employees who have been exposed to a potentially harmful substance during a spill or other unexpected event - exposed means an employee may have inhaled or contacted a substance in quantities that may pose a significant risk of a harmful effect
- Assist in Lactation Program Coordination - providing a clinic room or area(s) offering privacy, cleaning supplies, sink, and a refrigerator for the exclusive storage of expressed milk.
- Assist in AED Program Coordinator in accordance with DLAI 6055.02, Voluntary Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program.
- Enter medical determinations and test results into Defense Occupational and Environmental health System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH)
- Complete and submit monthly medical reporting per clinic guidelines
- Facilitate Medical Surveillance procedures, promptly contacting each employee's managerial point of contact and schedule an appointment for the appropriate physical examination to be completed within 45 days of receiving the list of employees under medical surveillance
- Assist with Medical Surveillance Physicals on designated employees to detect incipient health effects that may be due to exposures on the job. Some examples of medical surveillance include monitoring employees for susceptibility to work-related injuries and exposure to lead, asbestos, and radiation. The clinic staff shall keep written documentation of each physical examination.
- Assist and be willing to perform Vision screening, Immunizations and Audiograms
- Assist and help coordinate with Termination Physicals to determine whether the employee's job caused any occupational injury or illness
- Maintain Medical Records in accordance with DLA Records Management Procedures, using folders SF66D to organize the records; staff shall maintain all medical records to be current within twenty-four (24) hours.
- Utilize and submit forms in accordance with all applicable regulations, including, but not limited to, OSHA, DOD, and DLA regulations/instructions, for findings to be reported. shall notify the individual of the results of any medical examination performed that may indicate a work-related disease or other work-related adverse health conditions whether the conditions are permanent or temporary. The clinic staff shall notify the requestor in writing within eight working hours of the finding.
- Forward medical records to the government in accordance with all applicable regulations, using a sealed envelope that is marked in accordance with the Privacy Act
- Maintain a daily log of medical services provided, to include, at a minimum, the time and date, individuals' names, and whether the reason for each visit is occupational.
- Maintain daily work attendance records
The CMA will have:
- Training and Skills appropriate for a CMA to work in an outpatient clinic environment in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Completed an accredited medical assisting program
- 12 months of experience within the last 36 months in an outpatient clinical setting
- BLS Certification from the American Heart Association
- Healthcare documents as required (i.e. annual physical, TB, etc.)
- Working knowledge of email and Microsoft office applications
