Equipment Engineer II

Position Summary: The Equipment Engineer II provides hands-on engineering support for manufacturing equipment, utilities, process implementation and capital improvements in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment. The role works closely with Process Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality and EHS to improve equipment capability, support process scale-ups and technology transfer, troubleshoot technical issues, and successfully implement new or modified processes. In addition to core equipment engineering responsibilities, this position offers the opportunity to develop expertise in energy management and Corporate Sustainability. Through training, mentoring and collaboration with site and global FUCHS resources, the engineer will progressively develop into an Engineering Subject Matter Expert supporting the site's ISO 50001 Energy Management System. Prior ISO 50001 experience is preferred but not required. Salary: FUCHS offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position. The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $99,000 per year, but actual salary will vary depending upon a new hire's experience and qualifications as well as internal equity. - Provide engineering support for manufacturing, facility and utility equipment with a focus on equipment capability, performance, safety and effective implementation of manufacturing processes.
- Serve as the Equipment Engineering SME supporting Process Engineering, providing technical expertise for process scale-ups, technology transfer, equipment selection and modification, trials, commissioning and troubleshooting.
- Evaluate equipment/process interfaces, operating limits and equipment capability to ensure new or modified processes can be safely and effectively implemented in manufacturing.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, controls and equipment-related issues using structured engineering problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
- Lead or support equipment modifications, upgrades, replacements and installations required for process improvements, new products, capacity, safety and operational needs.
- Support equipment qualification, commissioning, change management and technical documentation associated with new or modified equipment and processes.
- Partner with Process Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality and EHS during scale-up, commercialization and ongoing manufacturing support.
- Support capital projects involving production equipment, utilities, infrastructure, automation and energy-efficiency improvements.
- Provide equipment-focused technical guidance to Maintenance and Operations where equipment configuration, capability or condition affects process performance.
- Support engineering activities across other FUCHS locations as required.
- Develop expertise in the site's ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) through structured training, mentoring and practical involvement in site energy-management activities.
- Progressively develop into the site's Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) for ISO 50001, including Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs), Significant Energy Uses (SEUs), energy baselines, relevant variables and related technical requirements.
- Support the evaluation and improvement of EnPIs and SEU performance through analysis of equipment operating conditions, production variables, utility consumption and energy data.
- Develop the ability to maintain and explain engineering calculations, assumptions, technical documentation and evidence supporting energy-performance methods and improvement projects.
- As experience develops, progressively assume Engineering SME responsibilities during internal, corporate and third-party ISO 50001 audits, including the ability to technically explain and defend EnPI/SEU methodologies, baselines, relevant variables and supporting engineering evidence.
- Support ongoing audit readiness, corrective actions, observations and Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs) related to the engineering elements of ISO 50001.
- Integrate Fairhaven's energy-management activities with the broader FUCHS worldwide ISO 50001 initiative, learning from global practices and contributing site experience and best practices as capability develops.
- Identify and support energy-efficiency opportunities involving manufacturing equipment, HVAC, compressed air, motors, controls, building systems and utilities.
- Support decarbonization and Corporate Sustainability initiatives through technical evaluations, energy calculations, project development, implementation and verification of results.
- Help translate energy and sustainability opportunities into practical engineering and capital projects, including technical scope, expected energy impact and project justification.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing or related Engineering discipline.
- Engineering experience supporting manufacturing equipment, process equipment, utilities, facilities, capital projects or related technical operations.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment and apply structured engineering problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
- Experience supporting process scale-up, equipment implementation, technology transfer or manufacturing improvement projects is preferred.
- Prior ISO 50001, EnPI, SEU, energy-management or sustainability experience is preferred but not required; training and development will be provided.
- Interest and demonstrated aptitude to develop technical expertise in energy management and eventually assume SME-level responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively with operators, maintenance personnel, engineers, management and auditors.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
