The successful candidate will have 5 or more years of litigation experience representing clients in the healthcare industry. This position provides a growth opportunity for a driven attorney with the ability to serve existing firm clients and grow their client base by utilizing the firm’s excellent marketing resources. Demonstrable analytical and problem‑solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel. Responsibilities: Manage all aspects of premises liability and medical malpractice litigation, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motions, trial preparation, and trial. Representation of healthcare systems at commitment proceedings and guardianship hearings. Prepare court pleadings including drafting motions and responses, and answering discovery requests. Work with medical experts to develop case strategies and understand complex medical issues. Research and draft memoranda of law and briefs. Participate in pretrial and trial hearings. Prepare attorneys and clients for trials and depositions. Participate in preparation of appeal briefs, responses and attorney preparation for oral arguments. Required Skills and Preferences: 5 or more years of litigation experience required. Experience in healthcare matters preferred, including representation of health systems in medical malpractice and premises liability cases. Preference for candidates that have experience or interest litigating guardianship and/or civil commitment cases. Preference given to candidates with demonstrated ability to attract and build a client base. Skilled at meeting deadlines under significant time pressure. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of professionalism and client orientation. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and work independently. Ability to manage time and resources effectively and independently. Education: Juris Doctorate degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association with an outstanding academic record. Admission to the North Carolina Bar. Must be and remain licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of North Carolina.
