LAUSD's Facilities Services Division plans, designs, and builds the District's educational facilities. As Design Associate, you support the District's planning and design staff: you read and interpret architectural, engineering, and planning documents, review plans against LAUSD standards and federal, state, and local codes, and keep the records that move projects forward complete and accurate.

You support the administration of architecture and engineering contracts, including contracts and invoices, prepare internal documentation for approval, collect and organize data for studies, reports, and presentations, carry out surveys and field investigations, and maintain project files with current technical information. You help coordinate project activities with District branches such as Environmental Health and Safety, Maintenance and Operations, Project Execution, and the Local Districts.

What You Will Own

Plan and document review against LAUSD standards and applicable codes

Support for architecture and engineering contract administration, including internal documentation, contracts, and invoices

Surveys, field investigations, and drawing review

Data collection, reports, presentations, and project research

Current, organized project files and technical records

Coordination support across District branches during design and construction

Requirements

5 years of full-time professional experience in an architecture and design setting (required for this role)

3 of those years on the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or a similar public agency (required for this role)

A bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or planning (required for this role)

Working knowledge of ADA, California Title 24, CalGreen, and the requirements of DSA, the Division of the State Architect, and the California Department of Education

Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Revit

Accurate calculations and surveys, clear writing, and the ability to manage several assignments at once

Preferred

Experience preparing DSA submittals and responding to plan check comments

Planning studies and field investigations on campuses that stay open while the work happens

Benefits

Salary range: $132,000 to $145,000 per year, based on experience.
