Supplier Quality Engineer
Responsible for leading supplier performance and development, assessing Quality Management Systems (QMS), implementation of best-practice tools, and reducing incoming supplier DPPM
Specific Duties:
- Work cross-functionally with Engineering, New Product Development, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Customer Quality Engineers to assess risk and approve suppliers for new and existing products
- Works with suppliers to ensure compliance to requirements, identification of critical characteristics, and validation of corrective/preventative actions
- Review and approve supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) packages and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) for new part introduction and existing part revisions
- Utilizes DMAIC methodology to develop and maintain Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) requirements including, determination of control plans, process instructions, inspection and testing requirements, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and calibration & measurement system analysis
- Participate in the Material Review Board (MRB) process to identify, evaluate, and dispose of nonconforming product
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action with both suppliers and internal Supplier Quality Engineering team
- Conduct on-site supplier assessments and lead identification of continuous improvement opportunities with supply base
- Works with various quality systems: ISO 9001, AS 9100, IATF 16949 and ISO 14001
- Lead/support on-going internal quality-related processes
- Strong knowledge of Six Sigma methodology, problem solving tools, and advocates utilization throughout the organization
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years minimum experience functioning in a quality or supplier quality role
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or technical field required
- Experience in variety of commodities (machining, castings/forgings, PCB/PCBA, injection molding, metal fabrication stampings, electronic components, plastics, special processes, etc.)
- Experience with APQP and PPAP including control plans, process flow charts, Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Comprehensive understanding of Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) including Design (DFMEA) and Process (PFMEA)
- Versed in advanced QMS (IATF 16949, AS 9100)
- Strong background with various supplier tools/activities including corrective actions, supplier audits, supplier score cards, and risk assessment
- Strong knowledge and practice in statistical analysis (SPC) and mathematical modeling
- Experience with inspection and testing procedures and methodology
- Strong understanding in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Must have in-depth understanding and experience in the application of root cause analysis tools and problem solving process.
