VP, Chief Medical Officer

Location Virginia Beach, VA. Work Shift: First (Days). Provider Specialty: Overview. Overview Reporting to the division president and as a member of the division leadership team, the VP, Chief Medical Officer is accountable for clinical performance improvement including promotion of clinical appropriateness, reduction of unwarranted clinical variation, clinical resource and outcomes management, coordinated oversight of hospitalists, and patient safety/quality related activities. Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is a 174‑bed acute care hospital that provides quality clinical outcomes, experienced physicians, advanced technology, and a patient‑centered approach to care in southern Virginia Beach, as well as neighboring Chesapeake and Northeastern North Carolina communities. It is a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence. The hospital specializes in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, advanced imaging, gynecological, comprehensive breast care services, family maternity with a state‑of‑the‑art neonatal intensive care unit, and hosts Virginia’s only Ornish Lifestyle Medicine program. Key responsibilities include accreditation and regulatory standards, infection prevention and control, clinical service line development, utilization review and management, clinical standardization, clinical informatics, clinical integration, human relations, employee health, risk management, research and IRB, patient experience, physician contract and recruiting, alternative payment models, and liaison to Sentara Medical Group and surrounding Patient‑Centered Medical Homes. The role functions as Administrator‑on‑call for the hospital, applies Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, serves as executive sponsor for projects and root cause analyses, leads system‑wide projects, engages in marketing and population health strategies, participates in key strategy discussions, and understands laws such as HIPAA, HCQIA and the HITECH Act. Education and Certification Medical Doctor (MD) – State License from the Virginia Department of Health Professionals (VADHP). Board certification in the specialty required at the time of hire; ongoing recertification preferred. Experience & Qualifications 5 years of clinical practice experience required. 5 years of leadership experience preferred in an acute care, inpatient hospital setting. Knowledgeable of contemporary practice issues within medicine and outcomes measurement of clinical quality and utilization. Familiarity with all aspects of hospital operations and leadership in patient safety/quality, medical staff affairs, and other clinical areas.
