Event Operations Manager - Sports & Entertainment

About the Role Our client, a leading player in the Leisure & Sports industry, is seeking a highly organized and experienced Event Operations Manager to oversee the successful execution of major sporting and entertainment events in Welkom, Free State . This role is crucial for ensuring seamless logistical operations, from initial planning through to post-event evaluation. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex event logistics, including venue management, staffing, budgeting, and risk assessment. They must be adept at coordinating multiple stakeholders, vendors, and service providers to deliver exceptional event experiences. This is a dynamic position that requires exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Key Responsibilities Plan, coordinate, and execute all operational aspects of assigned sports and entertainment events, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently. Manage event logistics, including venue setup and teardown, resource allocation, scheduling, and staffing requirements. Develop and manage event budgets, tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Liaise with venue management, local authorities, security teams, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and smooth operations. Oversee and manage third-party vendors and contractors, including catering, AV, security, and ticketing services. Develop and implement comprehensive risk management plans, including emergency procedures and contingency planning. Manage on-site operations during events, resolving issues promptly and effectively to ensure guest satisfaction. Conduct post-event evaluations, gathering feedback and preparing detailed reports on operational successes and areas for improvement. Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to ensure cohesive event promotion and branding. Ensure all events comply with relevant health, safety, and licensing regulations. Requirements A minimum of 4-6 years of experience in event management, with a strong focus on operations and logistics within the Leisure & Sports or entertainment sector. Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale events with complex logistical requirements. Proven ability to manage budgets effectively and control costs. Excellent understanding of venue operations, health and safety regulations, and risk management principles. Strong negotiation and vendor management skills. Exceptional organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in event management software and MS Office Suite. A relevant diploma or degree in Event Management, Hospitality, or a related field is advantageous. Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, and be based in or able to commute to Welkom, Free State .
