We are seeking a motivated individual for a full-time, entry-level Subsurface Utility Exploration (SUE) Technician position. As part of our team, you will be using advanced technologies such as electromagnetic line locators, ground penetrating radar, GPS, conventional surveying, and vacuum excavation. Employees play a key role in supporting safe and efficient project delivery. This position requires physical strength, technical ability, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. Flexibility to work overtime and travel for multi-day field projects is necessary, as is the ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
This position reports to the crew leader.
Role and responsibilities:
- Assist with the operation of vacuum excavation equipment to safely and non-destructively dig test holes and expose buried utilities
- Read and interpret utility records, as-built and survey drawings, and highway design plans.
- Use electromagnetic and geophysical tools (e.g., Ground Penetrating Radar) to designate and mark out underground lines.
- Log utility depths, take measurements, and assist surveyors in mapping exact locations for future engineering designs
- Perform pre- and post-trip safety inspections, basic mechanical upkeep, and routine cleaning of the vac truck and tools
- Familiarize yourself with all materials needed (lath, paint, hubs, caps, nails, discs, flagging, etc.)
- Familiarize/maintain truck tools and equipment, and make sure the truck is organized and clean
- Able to utilize a hammer correctly to drive rebar, hubs, and laths into the ground
- Able to read, use, and care for a tape measure correctly
- Willing to learn how to use RF and GPR designating equipment.
- Willing to learn how to set up and utilize Land Surveying equipment.
- Daily, show up to work on time according to the work schedule

- Drive/operate company vehicles
- Have legible handwriting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate questions and/or troubleshooting
- Learn about SUE techniques and practices
- Obtain an understanding of the ASCE 38-22 standards
- Able to use, sharpen, and cut a line with a machete
- All other tasks assigned by Crew Chief in the field.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- § Must have a VALID Florida driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record (Required)
- § Be able to pass a criminal background check (Required)
- § Radio Frequency & Ground Penetrating Radar Certification (Preferred, not required)
- § Land Survey experience (Preferred, not required)
- § 0 – 2 years of SUE experience

• This position reports directly to the SUE crew leader
Physical Demands:
The SUE Technician must be able to stand for extended periods of time and pay close attention to detail. The work environment does require physical movement outside on uneven terrain. Employees must be able and willing to work in inclement weather and must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Availability:
This is a full-time position. The days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime and weekends as required.
Travel:
To perform this position's duties, travel to respective job sites in Central Florida and within the state of Florida will be required.
