Overview We are seeking a Toxicologist to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. The CDC is at the front lines of public health threats to Americans and serves the American public who rely on accurate data, health guidance, and preventive measures. Responsibilities Apply the principles of toxicology, risk assessment, clinical toxicology, occupational toxicology, and risk communication to assess the public health implications resulting from human exposure to hazardous chemicals. Assess the metabolic pathway interactions of metals, solvents and vapors, radiation and radioactive materials, pesticides, and other organic contaminants. Support the analysis of toxicological/environmental data associated with hazardous waste sites. Evaluate toxicological/environmental data for quality assurance/quality control, completeness, and relevance. Provide expertise to assess site‑specific public health impacts of identified hazardous substances and to develop appropriate responses for health consultations requested by Federal, state and local agencies, and the public. Provide technical assistance and appropriate recommendations regarding potential human health impacts resulting from exposure or potential exposure to hazardous substances. Assist with the development of public and petition health assessments. Attend technical assistance site visits and public meetings. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in toxicology, environmental health, public health, health sciences, or a related scientific field. Experience working in public health, health sciences research, and/or program evaluation and performance measurement. Desired experience working with CDC, federal agencies, or related public health entities. Knowledge of toxicology, risk assessment, clinical toxicology, occupational toxicology, and risk communication principles. Experience analyzing and evaluating toxicological and environmental data, including data associated with hazardous waste sites. Ability to assess potential human health impacts resulting from exposure to hazardous substances and provide appropriate technical recommendations. Constantly have clear vision (near and/or far), depth perception, peripheral vision, and/or visual acuity. Physical Activities Constantly communicate with others to exchange information. Constantly assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Environmental Conditions Occasionally work in low and/or high temperatures. Occasionally work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Occasionally work in hazardous conditions. Occasionally work in environments where no adverse environmental conditions are expected. PPE and Chemical Requirements Occasionally wear PPE including but not limited to gloves, face shields/goggles, safety glasses, and safety shoes. Occasionally wear a lab coat. Occasionally wear a clean room uniform. Occasionally wear disposable dust/surgical mask and respirators, such as a disposable respirator mask (N-95), half-face/full-face style, PAPR, SCUBA.
