Sr. Patient Accounts Representative (H)

Position: Full time Senior Patient Accounts Representative (Hybrid) – University of Miami / UHealth Department of Neurological Surgery. Core Job Functions Submit claims to insurance companies and follow up on outstanding claims. Process, remit, and post payments to patients’ accounts. Reconcile monthly charges, identify errors, and research coverage policies. Assist patients with insurance and billing questions. Set up budget plans on outstanding accounts, mail copies of budget agreements to patients, monitor compliance, and follow up on any payment delinquencies. Receive and review patient, insurance, and attorney correspondence, research issues, and provide written responses. Enter all returned mail and stale checks in the database and research to acquire updated address information to reprocess items. Recommend policy and procedural changes to management as needed. Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets. Department Specific Job Functions Obtain authorization for all elective scheduled procedures: obtain necessary authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals. Obtain, confirm, and enter demographic, financial, and clinical information necessary for financial clearance of scheduled patient accounts. Work with physician nurse to complete spinal forms for insurance plans as necessary; obtain CPT codes from Coder to submit authorization requests. Contact patients’ families or physicians’ offices to obtain missing insurance information. Verify insurance and confirm insurance eligibility and facility contracts; notify patient and referring physician when eligibility fails. Notify patients of liabilities prior to date of service and collect funds. Collaborate with scheduling departments to identify add‑on patients. Respond to technical issues from patients, physicians, and employees via phone, email, web messages, and fax. Work independently and manage a heavy workload and complex patient inquiries. Recommend new approaches to management for enhancing performance and productivity. Process and handle confidential information with discretion. Analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Maintain effective relationships with patients and staff. Attend staff meetings and promptly answer the phone, relaying messages accurately. Other duties as assigned. Core Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent or relevant experience, certification, or license. Certification and Licensing: Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements. Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Learning Agility – ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands. Teamwork – ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment. Technical Proficiency – skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
