Position Description The Department of Urban and Regional Planning seeks a faculty member who will teach undergraduate‑level urban design studios and a graduate‑level urban design course, and may also teach a community planning studio. Responsibilities include: Developing and delivering studio‑based, project‑based instruction in urban design and planning. Engaging students in research projects that create sustainable urban spaces and integrate design thinking. Mentoring and advising students, particularly first‑generation and students from historically underrepresented groups. Contributing to curriculum development for the department’s accredited undergraduate and master’s programs. Participating in scholarly activities and service to the profession, community, department, college, and university. Minimum Requirements Master’s degree in urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, or a closely related design discipline. Demonstrated expertise in urban design through a portfolio of design work, built projects, or research‑driven practice with relevance to climate‑responsive design, urban health, sustainability, and community engagement. Commitment to teaching excellence in studio‑based or project‑based learning and experience in curricular development. Preferred / Desired Qualifications Ph.D. in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, or related fields, with a strong focus on urban design (ABD acceptable if degree conferred by start date). Experience teaching urban design studios and potential to teach a variety of courses across the curriculum. Evidence of scholarly, creative, or professional work in urban design, including publications, built work, competitions, or funded research. Experience mentoring and advising students, especially first‑generation and students from historically underrepresented groups.
