Job Title Building Services Assistant Manager II (Shift 2) Job Summary Employees in these classes are assigned to the shift working the later afternoon, evening, and night hours, and are responsible for the cleanliness, upkeep, and security of the facility to which assigned while on duty. At the direction of the building service manager, the assistant manager supervises workers performing assigned afternoon and evening cleaning duties. The size of the staff supervised varies with the size and complexity of the school. Typically, incumbents represent school administration when interacting with staff and community groups authorized by school staff and by ICB administrators to use classrooms and other facilities. The assistant manager classification and pay grade is determined annually based on factors such as facility size, projected facilities use and the number of relocatable classrooms, but may not exceed the pay grade of the facility’s building service manager. Responsibilities Maintain cleanliness, upkeep and security of assigned school facility during shift. Supervise and assign cleaning duties to subordinates. Represent school administration when interacting with staff and community groups. Respond to emergency situations and may be required to report to other locations. Perform manual labor such as lifting and moving heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.). Maintain uniforms and report current telephone number to supervisor. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Considerable knowledge of methods, materials and practices used in building service work, and proper use and care of cleaning equipment. Working knowledge of safe, efficient procedures for operating central heating plants and ability to make minor adjustments and service repairs. Thorough knowledge of building security procedures. Ability to train, assign, supervise and inspect work of subordinates; maintain records of time and materials and prepare routine reports. Ability to work with students, teachers, school leadership staff and the general public demonstrating professionalism, communication, organization, and problem‑solving competencies. Knowledge and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System. Education, Training & Experience Completion of ninth grade required. High school or GED diploma preferred. Varied experience of increasing responsibility in cleaning and general upkeep of a school building required. Experience in responsible supervision of building service personnel. Possession of a current valid boiler certificate and stationary engineer’s license preferred. Satisfactory completion of training activities established for this classification. Physical Demands Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to lift and move heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.) and perform manual labor. Special Requirements Employees are considered emergency personnel and are required to report to buildings during inclement weather and may be required to report to other locations to assist staff in emergency situations. Frequent overtime or night work may be required. Compensation and Benefits Wage range: $23.08 – $32.04 per hour based on years of service.
