Police Officer – Certified Agency and Position Agency: Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). Position number: 28000931. Pay range: $63,000 – $83,853. Employment type: Full time. Telework: No. Location: Fairfax County. Responsibilities Patrol and provide protection/safety to prevent crime. Investigate criminal activity, traffic and personal injury accidents and other complaints. Enforce state traffic laws and promote traffic safety. Interact with the public in a fair and impartial manner. Perform duties assigned by the department or state during emergency situations. Assist in maintaining security during emergency declarations by the Governor. Qualifications and Requirements At least 3 years continuous law enforcement experience as a Virginia law enforcement officer. Be out of law enforcement employment for less than 24 months and in good standing with former employers. Meet all requirements of 15.2‑1705 Code of Virginia. Must be able to pass a fingerprint‑based criminal background check. Must be 21 years of age, U.S. citizen, and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Licensed driver with a safe driving record. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, or qualify for the Option5 lateral program. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the VA Commonwealth laws, local ordinances, and College policies. Must meet physical and mental demands of the job. Strong oral and written communication skills; good computer skills. Ability to testify in court proceedings and qualify to operate a state vehicle. Additional Requirements May be required to travel between NOVA campuses. May be required to supervise employees. Must reside in Virginia, Maryland, or District of Columbia.
