General Merchandise Manager

General Merchandise Department Manager We are seeking a General Merchandise Department Manager who will lead our store’s team members and operations, ensuring high engagement, customer service, and financial performance. Responsibilities Lead, coach, and develop Leads and Team Leaders. Drive recognition, feedback, performance management, training and development, and succession planning. Direct Leads and Team Leaders, and ultimately be accountable for area operations and financials, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and forecasting, and team member and customer conflict resolution. Oversee the execution of corporate plans, ensuring all services and products are effectively managed to maximize sales and productivity, and own budget line items in the P&L. Drive safety and compliance throughout the store, manage overall condition, and follow all compliance procedures. Identify and implement process improvements and serve as steward of the Meijer culture. Engage with team members in span of care to ensure appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching and feedback. Identify talent and engage in career discussions to support overall store staffing and ensure a diversified talent pipeline strategy for team members and leadership roles. Conduct candid discussions to uphold Meijer standards and provide growth opportunities. Ensure Team Leaders and Leads assign daily work assignments and address training needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience. Progressive leadership experience preferred. Passion to provide industry‑leading service. Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members and provide clear direction. Ability to analyze financial and statistical information to make informed decisions. Commitment to safety and inclusive working environment.
