School Psychologist
The School Psychologist serves as a vital member of the student support team, providing comprehensive psychological services to promote academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and overall well-being for all students in grades K–12. The School Psychologist collaborates with educators, families, and community agencies to identify and address learning, behavioral, and emotional needs through assessment, consultation, and intervention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Specific tasks and/or activities under each of the following responsibilities will be assigned by the Supervisor:
- Conduct psychoeducational assessments to evaluate students' cognitive, academic, behavioral, and emotional functioning.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to interpret evaluation results, determine eligibility for special education, and assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provide direct support and interventions to students, including individual or small-group counseling and behavior management strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to design and implement evidence-based interventions that support student learning and well-being.
- Consult with staff and parents regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and behavior supports.
- Contribute to the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) frameworks.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Provide crisis intervention, risk assessments, and follow-up support in situations involving student safety or mental health concerns.
- Promote positive school climate initiatives and contribute to prevention programs that foster inclusion, empathy, and resilience.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and reports in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
- Serve as a liaison between the district, families, and outside mental health providers or community resources.
- Engage in professional development to stay current on best practices in school psychology, assessment tools, and state/federal regulations.
- Perform other duties related to the position of School Psychologist as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designee.
Education and/or Experience:
- Master's Degree or Doctorate in School Psychology from an accredited program.
- Valid Pennsylvania Educational Specialist Certificate in School Psychology.
- Knowledge of special education regulations, evaluation procedures, and behavioral intervention practices.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and digital learning tools.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and engaging learning environment.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational standards, curriculum materials, professional publications, and student data.
- Ability to write clear and effective instructional materials, assessments, and professional correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to present information and instruction clearly to individuals and groups of students, staff, and families.
- Ability to model and support the development of strong oral and written communication skills in students.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to apply concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages in reporting contexts.
- Ability to analyze and interpret student performance data to guide instructional decisions.
- Ability to use mathematical concepts in budgeting and data reporting related to classroom student reporting and evaluations.
Reasoning Ability:
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and adaptability when addressing challenges that require practical, flexible solutions.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions, curriculum guides, and assessment data to support student learning.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making and maintain confidentiality when handling student information.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and respond effectively to the individual needs of students.
- Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to improve instructional practices and classroom management.
Other Performance Responsibilities:
- Ability to use a district-provided computer with the database, spreadsheet, and word-processing software.
- Demonstrates strong organization and oversight in maintaining, inventorying, and ordering current testing materials and protocols to ensure accurate and compliant assessment practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely, both in oral and written communication.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Must appropriately handle confidential information.

Terms of Employment: Employment is conditional upon the successful completion and submission of all federal, state, and local hiring regulations. Certificated staff is employed for the number of school-year contractual days in accordance with the current Negotiations Agreement and placement on the bargaining agreement's salary schedule. Placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Benefits are provided in accordance with Board policy and contract specifications.
