Starts mid-August 185-day contract Job Summary The Speech Language Pathologist will evaluate, diagnose, and treat students (ages birth-5) with speech or language disorders, formulate individualized treatment programs, keep appropriate records, and inform teachers and parents about students' progress. Education and Certifications Master's degree in speech/language pathology required. Current Licensed/Certified Speech Language Pathologist through the Wyoming Board of Speech Language Pathology or eligible to obtain. A minimum of two years of experience working as an SLP is preferred. Current CPR certification through AHA. Supervisory Responsibilities Speech Language Assistant and/or Aides. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating specialized equipment used in the treatment of communication disorders; operating standard office equipment including pertinent computer software; preparing and maintaining accurate records; adhering to safety practices and procedures; analyzing data; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; conducting meetings; estimating required resources; operating job related equipment; and using pertinent software applications. Specific knowledge based competencies include: anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms and disorders; principles and practices of speech and language therapy; human behavior and individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; principles and methods of teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and measurement of training effects; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws. Ability required to schedule activities, meetings and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job related equipment. Flexibility to work independently with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving and interpreting guidelines are required. Specific ability based competencies include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; utilizing specialized equipment in communication disorders; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; maintaining effective working relationships; and translating therapy data into meaningful educational activities. Essential Functions Assesses students' communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment. Attends meetings (e.g. IEP, IFSP, MDT, etc.) to meet CDSFC protocol in support of student learning. Collaborates with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. parents, teachers, physicians, administration, maintenance personnel, team members, other professionals, etc.) to communicate information, resolve issues and provide services in compliance with established guidelines. Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g. testing/screening, IEPs, IFSPs, parent conferences, pre-referral staffing, transition, etc.) to present evaluation results, develop treatment plans, and/or provide training to parents/students/staff. Develops treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements. Instructs assigned support staff on communicative disorders, use of assistive devices and/or implementing prescribed treatment plans. Instructs parents/guardians in use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.) to minimize educational impact of communication disorders in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements. Interprets medical reports within the scope of Speech/Language Pathologist's experience and goals to ensure treatment/intervention plans are appropriate. Maintains files and/or records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening results, etc.) to ensure availability of information for reference and compliance. Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars (e.g. training, IEPs, IFSPs, team meetings, professional development, etc.) to convey and gather information for creating educationally relevant goals and objectives for students with speech and language therapy needs. Performs site visits (e.g. multiple work sites; home visits as assigned, etc.) to provide therapy and assistance as required by district, state and federal regulations. Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, reports, required documentation, etc.) for documenting activities, educational plans, providing written reference and conveying information in support of student, parents/guardians, and CDSFC guidelines. Provides speech and language therapy to students to minimize impact of speech and language disorders on student success. Researches resources and methods to determine appropriate approach for addressing students' needs. Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, teachers, staff, students, community agencies, etc.) to provide information and/or referrals in support of student educational goals. Transports supplies and equipment to a variety of sites to ensure availability of items as needed. Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 20% walking, 5% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Pre-employment testing is required for all CDSFC positions.
