General Description:
The Senior Director, Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO), is a senior scientific and strategic leader accountable for developing and executing integrated evidence-generation strategies that demonstrate the humanistic value of BeOne Medicines therapies. The role provides enterprise-level PRO leadership across one or more assets, indications, therapeutic areas, or regions and ensures that high-priority evidence needs are represented in integrated evidence plans, medical strategies, clinical development plans, and value and access strategies. The Senior Director influences portfolio and asset decisions, leads complex global humanistic programs, governs scientific quality and investment, and builds organizational capability through people leadership, matrix leadership, and external scientific engagement.
Working across Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Global Value, Access and Pricing, Biostatistics, Data Science, Patient-Reported Outcomes, Regulatory, Safety, Publications, Legal, Compliance, Privacy, and regional teams, the incumbent translates evidence gaps into prioritized, feasible research programs. The role is accountable for strategic alignment, scientific rigor, compliant execution, timely delivery, budget stewardship, and effective communication of PRO evidence to internal decision-makers and appropriate external stakeholders.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Strategy and Portfolio Leadership
- Own and provide senior leadership for global or regional PRO strategy across assigned assets, programs, therapeutic areas, or portfolios throughout the product lifecycle.
- Shape integrated evidence plans by identifying, prioritizing, and revisiting evidence gaps in collaboration with cross-functional leadership and evidence-generating functions.
- Ensure PRO perspectives are incorporated into asset strategy, clinical development plans, medical plans, lifecycle planning, launch preparation, reimbursement strategy, and annual operating and budget processes.
- Advise senior leaders and governance bodies on PRO evidence priorities, investment trade-offs, methodological options, feasibility, timing, and risk.
- Anticipate changes in healthcare systems, payer and health technology assessment expectations, data availability, methodological standards, and the competitive landscape, and translate those changes into strategic recommendations.
Scientific and Methodological Leadership
- Provide executive scientific oversight for PRO real-world evidence, observational research, comparative effectiveness and safety research, burden-of-illness studies, patient preference research, health economic models, indirect treatment comparisons, evidence syntheses, and value communication deliverables.
- Guide the selection and implementation of fit-for-purpose patient-reported outcome and other clinical outcome assessment strategies in partnership with PRO and Clinical Development experts.
- Ensure research questions, protocols, analysis plans, models, and interpretations are scientifically rigorous, reproducible, transparent, and aligned with intended decision needs.
- Provide senior review and approval, within delegated authority, of concepts, protocols, statistical analysis plans, technical reports, models, publications, and executive presentations.
- Sponsor innovation in PRO, analytical, and data-science methods while ensuring appropriate validation, governance, and business relevance.
Program Governance and Execution
- Lead a portfolio of complex, high-impact evidence-generation programs from concept through results dissemination and project closure.
- Set priorities, decision rights, milestones, quality expectations, and escalation pathways for internal teams and external research partners.
- Oversee project budgets, forecasts, contracts, vendor performance, timelines, risks, and resource allocation, and take timely corrective action when objectives are at risk.
- Ensure appropriate cross-functional review and compliance with applicable legal, ethical, privacy, safety, regulatory, publication, data-governance, and company requirements.
- Establish fit-for-purpose quality controls and independent technical review for complex analyses, models, and high-impact deliverables.
- Ensure balanced interpretation of findings, including uncertainty, missingness, bias, confounding, generalizability, sensitivity analyses, and study limitations.
Cross-Functional and Executive Influence
- Serve as the senior PRO partner to asset teams, medical and development leadership, access teams, governance committees, and regional stakeholders.
- Build alignment across functions and geographies when priorities, evidence needs, timelines, or methodological perspectives differ.
- Translate complex scientific and economic evidence into clear implications and recommendations for executive, clinical, payer, regulatory, and nontechnical audiences.
- Facilitate timely decisions by framing options, trade-offs, dependencies, risks, and recommended actions.
- Contribute to business development, due diligence, portfolio assessment, and external partnership evaluations, as assigned.
- Lead or oversee publication and scientific communication strategies for assigned PRO programs in partnership with Publications and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Represent BeOne Medicines at scientific congresses, professional associations, advisory forums, and other appropriate external engagements.
- Build credible relationships with researchers, clinicians, payers, health economists, patient organizations, and other external experts in accordance with company policies.
- Advance the company’s scientific reputation through high-quality research, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and responsible methodological leadership.
People and Organizational Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop direct reports and provide matrix leadership to cross-functional colleagues, contractors, and external research teams.
- Set clear objectives, provide actionable feedback, support development planning, and create an inclusive environment that promotes accountability, collaboration, and scientific challenge.
- Assess capability and capacity needs and recommend hiring, external support, training, tools, standards, and operating-model improvements.
- Promote consistent PRO practices, knowledge sharing, reusable resources, and continuous improvement across global and regional teams.
- Demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, financial stewardship, and accountability for decisions and commitments.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manages and develops one or more employees, as assigned, and provides senior functional direction to matrix teams, contractors, and external research partners.
