This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5 . Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under supervision, the Architect II will coordinate the Chicago Landmarks permit review process, including review of permit applications, review of pre-permit projects, conduct site visits, communicate with applicants and stakeholders, write reports and make presentations to the Commission on Chicago Landmarks, and perform related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Reviews permit applications and architectural plans for compliance with guidelines and standards

* Visits construction sites to verify compliance of permit conditions

* Conducts pre-permit review meetings and coordinates solutions with applicants

* Consults manufacturers and consultants on technical issues as needed

* Analyzes pre-permit projects and prepares reports and presentation materials for monthly committee meetings

* Makes presentations at both internal and public meetings

* Coordinates with other government organizations in expediting projects through different agencies

* Manages larger or other division projects beyond permit process

* Works with established timelines, process and monitor the progress of assigned projects

* Tracks and maintains required documentation for assigned projects

* Responds to general inquiries from the public by phone and email

Additional duties may be required for this position

Location: City Hall, 11th Floor

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm or 9:00am - 5:00pm

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture, plus one (1) year of professional architectural work experience

Selection Criteria

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

* Previous experience reviewing or preparing architectural drawings

* Previous experience on historic building projects or interest in historic preservation

* Knowledge of municipal building codes

* The ability to be comfortable making presentations in front of the general public

* Proficiency working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
