Standardized Patient 1
Tulane University
Standardized Patients (SPs) are individuals trained to portray the role of actual patients by enacting faculty defined clinical scenarios for teaching and assessment purposes. SPs must accurately and consistently simulate the history, personality, physical findings, emotional structure and response pattern of a patient. They utilize their own body to evaluate learners on correct basic physical examination techniques, along with doctor‐patient communication and other clinical skills in a simulated clinical environment. SPs report to the Program Director and work closely with the SP Educators to ensure learners obtain, apply, and practice clinical skills in a non‐threatening, standardized, positive encounter. This position is considered part time/as needed, and individuals are scheduled based on the case implementation component of the required curriculum as determined by the Course Directors.
