Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will support the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of industrial generators, motors, and associated electrical systems. This role focuses on both existing product support and new product development, ensuring that all designs meet customer requirements and comply with industry standards. The position offers significant exposure to power systems, rotating equipment, and high-voltage applications, and provides opportunities to influence engineering improvements and overall product performance.
Responsibilities
- Support the design and development of industrial generators, motors, drives, alternators, and related electrical systems.
- Provide engineering support for existing products and designs, including performance improvements and issue resolution, representing approximately 75% of work allocation.
- Contribute to new product development initiatives, including concept evaluation, design input, and technical validation, representing approximately 15% of work allocation.
- Perform electrical analysis and technical evaluations to ensure designs meet customer requirements, safety considerations, and industry standards.
- Conduct testing and validation of electrical systems and components, including surge testing and other specialized procedures, representing approximately 10% of work allocation.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical equipment and power systems with minimal training, diagnosing issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Support manufacturing and production teams with technical guidance on electrical designs, assembly processes, and test procedures.
- Collaborate frequently with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing teams to resolve technical issues and support product performance.
- Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel tools, including VBA and macros, to perform engineering calculations, data analysis, and reporting.
- Apply knowledge of IEEE and NEMA standards, as well as power distribution and utility practices, to ensure compliance and robust design.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product reliability, efficiency, and maintainability.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly and confidently to cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and customers as needed.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- 3–10+ years of electrical engineering experience, depending on level.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and electrical theory.
- Experience in industrial manufacturing, power generation, power systems, utilities, or closely related industries.
- Ability to support and troubleshoot complex electrical equipment with minimal training.
- Hands-on experience with power systems and rotating equipment such as motors, drives, generators, or alternators.
- High-voltage experience with systems up to approximately 13 kV is strongly preferred.
- Ability to perform design support, technical analysis, and testing activities for electrical systems and components.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including proficiency with VBA and macros.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to confidently discuss technical topics with engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working directly with generators, motors, alternators, or other rotating electrical equipment.
- Experience in utility industry environments and power distribution systems.
- Testing and validation experience, including production testing and specialized engineering validation activities.
- Knowledge of IEEE standards applicable to power systems and electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of NEMA standards related to electrical equipment and enclosures.
- Familiarity with surge testing practices and methodologies.
- Experience using AutoCAD or similar tools for electrical design and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment and contribute to long-term product and process improvements.
Work Environment
This role operates within a manufacturing and engineering environment that combines office-based design and analysis work with hands-on testing and validation activities. The Electrical Engineer will spend time in an office setting working with internally developed engineering tools built on Excel-based platforms, and time on the production floor or test areas conducting electrical testing, validation, and troubleshooting. The position involves frequent collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing teams, and offers exposure to large-scale industrial power generation equipment and advanced power systems. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
