Autistic Support Teacher

York Suburban Middle School is looking for an Autistic Support Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Title: Autistic Support Teacher Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field, experience working with students with disabilities, understanding of special education regulations and best practices, patience and empathy for supporting the wellbeing of the student and commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Certification: Must hold a valid Pennsylvania Special Education Certification (K-12) Reports To: Building Principal Terms Of Employment: Annual salary, work schedule and other conditions of employment in accordance with the York Suburban Education Association negotiated agreement.

Essential Functions

1. Create a safe, positive classroom environment, provide individualized/small group learning, and use a variety of resources to ensure the success of students with disabilities 2. Develop instructional materials and provide one-on-one and small group instruction in order to modify or adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student 3. Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques 4. Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their goals 5. Instruct and support in developing independent skills 6. Utilize positive behavior support strategies, proactive intervention techniques, and de-escalation strategies to address challenging behaviors and promote a safe and supportive learning environment in the classroom, school premises or during school activities 7. Collaborate and consult with educational professionals regarding the needs of students to modify curriculum and implement accommodations and modifications to support the inclusion of students 8. Complete all necessary special education paperwork as mandated by Chapter 14 9. Coordinate and facilitate IEP meeting for students 10. Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress, collect data, and adjust instructional strategies and interventions accordingly to ensure academic growth and skill development in order to make data-based decisions about the programming and placement of students 11. Maintains professional competence through participation in staff development activities provided by the District, LIU, or other approved educational providers 12. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education 13. Foster partnerships with parents/guardians through regular communication, progress updates, and collaboration in the development and implementation of student goals 14. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, conferences and other collaborative meetings to review student progress, set goals, and make instructional decisions 15. Provide direction and supervision of classroom paraprofessionals, as directed 16. Possess knowledge of state, federal and Board policies, guidelines, and procedures and the rights and responsibilities of parents, students, teachers and schools as they relate to individuals with special needs
