Manufacturing Engineer - The Toro Company

Position Overview Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for determining methods, processes, and equipment required in the Grinding production area. The role supports new product development, design and cost improvement, maintenance, make‑vs‑buy, and manages product cost to target. Responsibilities Provide engineering expertise to aid in the development of annual and long‑term business plans. Design, justify, develop, and implement the engineering portions of the plans. Evaluate and initiate new methods, processes, materials and equipment to ensure competitive position. Prepare IAR’s; coordinate the investigation, selection, installation, proof‑out and training to integrate projects into the unit. Review new parts in the concept stage and recommend standardization, cost‑effective zero‑defect manufacturing, and improved functionality (DFMA). Determine parts to be produced within the value stream and provide manufacturing input to design project teams. Prepare supporting documentation (cost estimate/tooling budgets) for new project milestones and redesigns. Provide cost data to Engineering, Marketing, and Finance for project direction, pricing, budgeting, and ROI calculations. Direct interface with Design Engineering on process capability, materials utilization, and design alternatives. Analyze and provide solutions for quality, productivity, safety, flexibility and cost issues. Maintain process documentation and costing data for manufacturing equipment. Review sourcing of parts and recommend alternate sources. Provide support for specialized processes (tool design, CNC programming, set‑up procedures, metallurgical analysis). Mentor and train grinding machine operators. Apply Total Quality, Project Management, and LEAN principles. Interface with other departments cooperatively. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Materials Science, or Manufacturing Engineering (ABET accredited). Engineer II: 2–4 years experience in manufacturing disciplines. Engineer III: 5+ years experience in manufacturing disciplines. First shift; ability to flex into other shifts. Strong reading, interpretation of engineering drawings with GD&T. Industry experience in grinding process engineering. Excellent attention to detail and data analysis skills. Ability to troubleshoot inspection device programs and auxiliary equipment.
