Work Shift: Night (United States) Hours: Part-time Nights (24 hrs per week) About the Facility Wellstar Kennestone Hospital Overview The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple-problem patient situations and works predominantly in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision‑making, and self‑direction. In addition to direct patient care, the RT II supports patient, family/support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional self‑developmental activities. The RT II provides patient care with an understanding and awareness of population-specific needs and addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs when providing care. The RT II also participates in the education of new employees and others. Responsibilities Provides customer service, completing patient care, documentation, and education. Adopts a team approach to service, promoting team spirit and a positive work environment. Provides a supportive environment for students and staff. Administers quality patient care, performing patient assessment and therapy assessment. Collaborates with health‑care team members in planning patient care. Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. Performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management (intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care). Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students, and peers. Assists in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing (location specific). Promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging. Promotes high levels of patient safety (medication safety, NPSG, etc.). Promotes performance‑improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Promotes evidence‑based practice. Reviews revised and new DPPs. Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Qualifications Required Minimum Education Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with minimally 20 quarter hours of science. Associate's Degree (A.S.) required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Required Minimum Experience 0–2 years clinical experience with a minimum six‑month critical care component. Required Minimum Skills Excellent communication, critical thinking, and relationship‑building skills with physicians and other health‑care professionals. Computer skills, including familiarity with databases. Good customer‑relations, assessment, and communication skills. Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Respiratory Therapist required. Respiratory Care Prof required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required; BLS Instructor and BLS Provisional required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required; ACLS Instructor and ACLS Provisional required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required; PALS Instructor and PALS Provisional required.
