Forensic Nurse Examiner

Mission Health in Asheville, NC is seeking a Forensic Nurse Examiner to provide specialized, trauma‑informed care to patients affected by violence, abuse, or assault. In this on‑site role, you will perform detailed forensic exams, collect and preserve evidence, document findings for potential legal proceedings, and collaborate with law enforcement, advocacy groups, and legal teams. Working within a large, patient‑centered health system, you’ll use advanced medical technology, participate in multidisciplinary care, and contribute to community health initiatives. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive forensic nursing care to patients affected by violence, abuse, or assault. Perform detailed forensic exams, evidence collection, and documentation following legal standards. Collaborate with law enforcement, advocacy agencies, and legal teams as appropriate. Maintain accurate, timely medical and forensic records for potential legal proceedings. Offer trauma‑informed patient education, crisis intervention, and safety planning. Participate in on‑call coverage for forensic examinations as scheduled. Support courtroom testimony as a forensic expert when required. Adhere to Mission Health and HCA policies, regulatory guidelines, and ethical standards. Engage in ongoing training, quality improvement, and professional development. Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams to improve community health outcomes. Key Competencies Forensic evidence collection and preservation. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) procedures. Trauma‑informed care. Detailed clinical and legal documentation. Chain‑of‑custody management. Courtroom testimony and legal collaboration.
