General Maintenance Worker

Overview General Maintenance Worker – Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for faculty, staff, and students through indoor and outdoor cleaning and maintenance activities. Responsibilities Maintain and repair building and grounds, ensuring floors, carpets, windows, skylights, ceilings, walls, rooms, furniture, and restrooms are cleaned and functional. Operate cleaning machines and apply appropriate chemicals, ensuring safe handling and disposal. Perform grounds work: planting, cutting, mowing, raking, seeding, trimming, watering, and sidewalk/parking lot maintenance. Assist with security and building checks: lock doors, check emergency exits, set alarms, identify safety hazards, and create work orders as needed. Support campus events by setting up equipment, assembling classrooms, relocating furniture, and managing equipment deliveries. Perform miscellaneous duties to support department operations and maintain organizational reputation. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of flooring types and appropriate maintenance methods. Familiarity with chemical cleaning agents and safe application. Proficiency with maintenance tools, equipment, and minor repair techniques. Physical health and endurance to lift and carry 40–60 lbs. and work in inclement weather. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work independently, and keep simple records. Preferred Qualifications Current MN Boiler Operators License – Class A, B, C, or Special Engineer. Knowledge of mechanical, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting trades. Experience with semi‑skilled work in multiple trade areas. Bilingual/multilingual fluency in Spanish, Karen, Karenni, Somali, Pohnpeian, French, Anuak, Nuer, or other languages reflecting the student body. Demonstrated experience working with multicultural and underserved populations. Other Requirements Successful completion of employment references and a driver’s license background check. Ability to perform general physical tasks and lift materials weighing 40–60 lbs. Work shift: 2:30pm–11:00pm Tuesday–Friday; 7:30am–3:30pm Saturday.
