- Support staff in daily operations (e.g. greeting, phone calls, data entry and filing and organizing paperwork)
- Assist staff in special projects
- Assist in demonstrations (e.g. mock role-play, directions to a game) and create activity supplies (i.e. cut-outs for games, laminating pictures, collecting visuals)
- Make photocopies and distribute papers and supplies and sort and stock and paper and supplies and support teachers with organization, preparation and clean-up
- Accompany students to and from the classroom
- Review physical and shot records and take temperature of students
- Provide administrative support and additional services specified by nurse
- Organize the library and establish routines that support children's learning
- Performs circulation activities such as collection maintenance, weeding, shelving, sorting, searching, retrieval of book drop, circulation reports preparation and filling requests/processing holds
- Plan a variety of bulletin board and book displays
- Provide administrative and technological support and additional services specified by librarian and/or teacher
- Accompany students to and from the classroom
- Assist students in logging in to their computers
- Provide administrative and technological support and additional services specified by librarian and/or teacher
- Maintain communication via portable radio with the main office and security who will take appropriate action
- Support school staff and security with the flow of traffic in the hallways and direct students to the correct classrooms
- Escort students as necessary to their classroom or the main office when students arrive late or are wandering in the halls after the late bell rings
- Verify the authenticity of hall pass in possession of students in the hall
- Inspect restrooms to ensure students are not loitering or damaging facilities (assistance will be requested for opposite sex restroom inspections)
- Report all damage or writings on the walls to the main office
- Monitor activities in the cafeteria during lunch break
- Use a variety of manipulatives to support student in their understanding of word sounds, word structures and mathematics
- Assist younger children with learning and identifying the alphabet, colors, numbers, shapes and rhyming words
- Help students who are catching up on missed work and need remedial support
- Share study habits and teach students about organization, time management, note-taking, reading textbooks, active listening, etc.
- Eat and build a relationship with students during lunchtime (e.g. playing board games)
- Support students to enhance social and emotional skills
- Offer a safe place for mentees to share their stories - academic and personal
- Use active listening to ensure the needs of mentees are being met and sharing relevant academic and personal experiences if appropriate
- Build a relationship with students centered on mutual trust and respect
- Offer a safe place for mentees to share their stories - academic and personal
- Encourage inquiry-based learning by providing students with the tools to explore their own thought processes and identify solutions
- Support mentees in creating an action plan outlining their motivation and goals
- Utilize active listening to ensure the needs of mentees are being met and sharing relevant academic and personal experiences if appropriate
- Plant flowers and trim shrubs and trees
- Spread mulch and rake leaves
- Pull weeds and trim around sidewalks
- Clean the periphery of school building and playground(s)
- Paint classroom and hallway walls
- Dust, sweep and pick up debris
- Assemble care packages and/or write thank-you letters to teachers and staff
- Host an appreciation event for the faculty and staff
- Provide in-kind donations to faculty and staff (e.g. gift cards)
- Support faculty and staff in logistics and program implementation
- Set up and tear down equipment and materials
- Check in and direct students to program locations
- Provide a variety of school supplies for students and teachers including, but not limited to pencil boxes, folders, notebooks, construction paper, lined paper, pens, pencils, erasers, colored pencils, crayons, markers, glue sticks, rulers, binders, tissues, hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes
- Donate clothes and toiletries including, but not limited to uniforms (at select schools), coats/jackets, underwear, socks, blankets, toilet paper, small bottles of bath essentials (e.g. shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, deodorant), dental hygiene essentials (e.g. toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss), first-aid items (e.g. bandages, ointments, medicated wipes, ace bandages), feminine hygiene products (e.g. pads and tampons) and diapers
- Provide non-perishable foods including, but not limited to canned low-sodium vegetables, canned fruit, canned tuna, canned chicken, low-sodium soups, rolled oats, quinoa, brown rice, whole-grain/low-sugar cereals, olive or canola oil, popcorn kernels, shelf stable milk or milk substitutes, 100% fruit juice, whole grain pasta, low-sodium pasta sauce, honey, granola bars, broths and stocks
