Summary
The Industrial Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work in support of construction, maintenance, repair, and modification activities within industrial facilities. This position constructs, installs, repairs, and dismantles temporary and permanent structures, concrete formwork, platforms, barricades, framing, and other wood or composite components in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
The Carpenter works as part of a multidisciplinary construction team in active industrial environments and is expected to perform assigned work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Taurus Industrial Group policies, client requirements, applicable safety standards, and established quality expectations.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of carpentry experience in industrial, commercial, heavy construction, or a related environment preferred.
- Industrial construction, refinery, petrochemical, chemical plant, power generation, or manufacturing facility experience preferred.
- Experience constructing and dismantling concrete forms and performing general industrial carpentry work preferred.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment commonly used in carpentry work.
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings, sketches, measurements, and work instructions.
- Ability to accurately use measuring devices and perform basic construction-related mathematical calculations.
- Ability to meet applicable company, client, and site-specific safety and training requirements.
- Ability to work varying schedules, including overtime, weekends, nights, shutdowns, and outages, as required by project needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of industrial carpentry methods, materials, tools, and construction practices.
- Knowledge of concrete form construction, installation, bracing, stripping, and related carpentry activities.
- Knowledge of lumber, plywood, fasteners, form materials, and other materials commonly used in industrial carpentry.
- Ability to measure, cut, shape, assemble, install, and repair wood and other construction materials.
- Ability to safely use saws, drills, grinders, nail guns, levels, squares, measuring tapes, and other hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, dimensions, elevations, and work instructions applicable to assigned work.
- Ability to accurately measure and lay out work using appropriate measuring and leveling devices.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving measurements, fractions, dimensions, and material quantities.
- Ability to identify unsafe conditions and immediately communicate safety concerns to supervision.
- Ability to inspect tools and equipment before use and recognize damaged or unsafe equipment.
- Ability to follow established safety procedures, work permits, job safety analyses (JSAs/JHAs), and site-specific requirements.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew and coordinate activities with other crafts and trades.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to maintain dependable attendance and work effectively in a fast-paced industrial construction environment.
Essential Functions
- Perform industrial carpentry work in support of construction, maintenance, repair, and modification projects.
- Construct, install, modify, repair, and dismantle concrete forms for foundations, slabs, equipment pads, walls, piers, columns, and other concrete structures.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install lumber, plywood, form materials, and other construction materials according to drawings, specifications, or field instructions.
- Lay out work using measuring tapes, levels, squares, string lines, and other appropriate layout tools.
- Construct and install temporary structures, barricades, enclosures, walkways, platforms, protective barriers, and other jobsite components as required.
- Install bracing, supports, blocking, framing, and related components to maintain proper alignment and structural stability.
- Assist with setting forms to the required lines, grades, elevations, and dimensions.
- Strip and dismantle concrete forms following placement and curing while minimizing damage to reusable materials.
- Clean, inspect, organize, and prepare form materials for reuse when appropriate.
- Safely operate hand tools, portable power tools, and other equipment required to perform assigned carpentry activities.
- Inspect tools and equipment before use and remove damaged or unsafe equipment from service in accordance with company procedures.
- Estimate and communicate material needs to supervision to support efficient completion of assigned work.
- Load, unload, stage, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment as required.
- Coordinate work activities with laborers, concrete crews, equipment operators, scaffold personnel, and other crafts working within the area.
- Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition to reduce hazards and support safe operations.
- Follow applicable OSHA requirements, company safety policies, client requirements, and site-specific work practices.
- Participate in pre-job meetings, toolbox talks, JSAs/JHAs, and other required safety activities.
- Properly use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed.
- Perform work in accordance with project quality requirements, drawings, specifications, and supervisor instructions.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on project and operational needs.
Physical Demands
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, and perform repetitive physical movements throughout the workday.
- Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain, gravel, concrete, stairs, scaffolding access areas, and other industrial surfaces.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and approved access systems as required to reach assigned work areas.
- Ability to work at various elevations and around active construction operations.
- Ability to frequently use hands and arms to grip, handle, position, assemble, and operate tools and construction materials.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, pull, position, and handle construction materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier materials with appropriate assistance or mechanical means.
- Ability to perform work from standing, kneeling, crouching, or other positions for extended periods.
- Ability to visually inspect measurements, layouts, materials, tools, formwork, and completed work.
- Ability to communicate effectively in environments with moderate to elevated noise levels.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying environmental and weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods consistent with the essential functions of the position
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
- hard hat, safety glasses, welding hood, face shield, gloves, hearing protection, FR clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, respiratory protection and other project-specific PPE.
Work Environment
- Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction and maintenance sites, including refineries, chemical and petrochemical facilities, power generation facilities, manufacturing plants, and other heavy industrial environments.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, humidity, direct sunlight, wind, and other varying weather conditions.
- The employee may be exposed to elevated noise levels, dust, fumes, moving vehicles and equipment, uneven terrain, open excavations, elevated work areas, and other conditions commonly associated with industrial construction.
- Work may be performed near operating equipment and active plant processes.
- Required PPE must be worn in accordance with Taurus Industrial Group, client, and site-specific requirements.
- The position may require work at heights, in confined or restricted areas, or around active construction operations.
- Work schedules may include extended hours, overtime, weekends, nights, shutdowns, and outages based on project requirements.
- Travel or temporary assignment to project and client locations may be required.
