Position: RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for our Med Surg/Telemetry unit. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience and possess the required certifications of ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS or Stroke Certification. This position is for a night shift, requiring 3 twelve-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30. Weekend shifts are mandatory, with expectations for coverage every other weekend.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients.
• Monitor patient progress and administer appropriate interventions.
• Perform telemetry monitoring and respond to changes in patient condition.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support patient care objectives.
• Document all patient care activities accurately in the electronic health record (Epic).
• Adhere to infection control protocols and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure in North Carolina or a compact state.
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a Med Surg/Telemetry environment.
• Experience with charting via Epic is required.
• Charge experience is preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple patients, with a typical ratio of 1:6.

Required Skills

• Proficient in accessing and managing ports and IVs.
• Experienced in blood product administration and telemetry monitoring.
• Skilled in managing various patient care scenarios, including post-operative care, respiratory management (BIPAP/CPAP), and urinary management.
• Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias.
• Competent in wound care, tracheostomy care, and managing central lines.

Unit Details

The Med Surg/Telemetry unit has a daily census of approximately 30 patients, with a total of 39 beds available. The unit is equipped with vital interdisciplinary support, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and a responsive pharmacy team.

Additional Requirements

• Flu vaccines are mandatory; no exemptions are accepted.
• All travelers must pass an EKG/Telemetry exam onsite.
• Regular attendance is crucial; travelers may be allowed up to three absences per 13-week contract.
