NC State Prevention Services provides case management, education, and outreach emphasizing developmental, and non-judgmental perspectives for student prevention efforts. Responsibilities The CARES Coordinator in NC State University’s Prevention Services is responsible for conducting behaviorally and clinically informed assessments with students to identify and address barriers to personal and academic success, including safety threats. The role provides referrals, coordinates interventions, collaborates with campus partners, and delivers outreach, training, and prevention programming. Coordinators may also hold an area(s) of emphasis based on operational needs. Student Assessment and Case Management Conduct behaviorally and clinically informed one‑on‑one assessments with students to identify and mitigate barriers to personal and academic success, including threat assessment for self or others. Provide timely and appropriate referrals to university and off‑campus resources; coordinate intervention plans to minimize or resolve student concerns. Monitor and track student progress to ensure compliance with recommendations, ongoing assessment, and identification of emerging concerns. Create and manage re‑entry strategies for students returning after psychological hospitalization. Serve on key cross‑campus support and assessment teams: NC State CARES Team – assess and support students of concern. Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT) – assist with threat assessments when appropriate. Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) – participate as needed. Participate in after‑hours postvention and case review rotation; occasional evening or weekend outreach responsibilities. Maintain service schedule of approximately 50% direct student/faculty/staff support and 50% administrative responsibilities. Data Management, Documentation & Assessment Accurately document all correspondence, notes, and action items in the Maxient database. Assist in managing and maintaining ethically sound data collection and analysis related to students of concern. Use data to support continuous improvement and best‑practice development in case management and prevention services. Provide comprehensive outreach and consultation to faculty, staff, students, and families through presentations, workshops, and creative multi‑media efforts. Collaborate with campus partners to ensure consistent, integrated messaging around prevention, well‑being, and student support. Complete required training (e.g., QPR Suicide Prevention) and deliver training programs to students, faculty, and staff. Support university‑wide prevention initiatives addressing topics such as suicide prevention, case management, and well‑being. Program Coordination, Areas of Emphasis & Campus Partnerships Coordinate resources, programming, and direct services within the assigned area(s) of emphasis (e.g., suicide prevention, alcohol and other drugs/recovery, peer education, training, assessment). Serve as the primary consultant for campus partners related to the assigned area(s). Maintain up‑to‑date content and resources for the designated emphasis area(s). Represent Prevention Services in relevant committees, meetings, or initiatives. Professional Collaboration, Supervision & Other Duties Engage with interns, graduate assistants, and temporary employees; may supervise or mentor these roles. Contribute to overall Prevention Services operations and team initiatives.Complete other duties as assigned within the scope of a prevention specialist and departmental needs. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Successful candidates will be multicultural affirming and possess competence and experience in working with varied populations. Other Required Qualifications Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills across a variety of settings. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team‑oriented environment. Demonstrated experience conducting behaviorally or clinically informed risk assessments. Demonstrated ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and reasoning to make crucial decisions autonomously. Demonstrated experience in providing individualized support for individuals in distress or who have been identified as exhibiting concerning or worrisome behaviors. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with campus and community partners. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of case management systems (preferably in a higher education setting), and/or experience working as part of a case management support team. Demonstrated history of effective collaborations across a complex array of multiple agencies within a university setting. Strong working knowledge of federal and state laws related to privacy and confidentiality, disability accommodations, and response to sexual violence. Experience with supervision or providing training to interns, graduate assistants, or staff. Broad knowledge of best practices and current national trends in higher education case management, student support, and behavioral intervention. Required License(s) or Certification(s) Hold current full clinical licensure in NC or able to obtain this licensure status within six months.
