Senior Manual Machinist The Senior Manual Machinist will set up and operate turret or engine lathes, with a strong preference for manual mill machines. This role performs all machining operations that require short lead times and close tolerances on a continuous basis, such as air products. The engineer must work to exact tolerances, determine speeds and feeds, and recognize and report corrections in blueprint errors. The position also requires the ability to cut internal and external threads. Hours: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, Monday–Friday. What you’ll do Read process sheets, blueprints and sketches to determine machining required, dimensional specifications, and set‑up and operating requirements. Mount work piece between centers, in chuck or on faceplate. Observe numerical displays to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates and speeds of machining cuts. Inspect run pieces and spot‑check succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications. Use measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers and CMM for conformance to specifications. Machine bronze, stainless, plastics and other materials. What you’ll bring High School Diploma or GED. 7+ years of experience in manual machining. Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing). Experience machining finish‑grade components to tight tolerances. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Complex Problem Solving – Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Training – Effectively communicate processes and train new and existing employees. Leadership – Lead and mentor employees. Production and Processing – Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing efficient manufacture and distribution of goods. Mathematics – Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Equipment Selection – Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Design – Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in producing precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models. Blueprint Review – Review blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods or sequences. Set‑up and Programming – Set up manual machines and/or program CNC machines independently. Critical Thinking – Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Active Listening – Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand points, ask questions appropriately and avoid interrupting at inappropriate times. Reading Comprehension – Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work‑related documents. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here represent those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regularly required: stand, talk or hear; occasionally required: walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, taste or smell. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
