Janitorial Supervisor

Hands-On Custodial & Facilities Leadership

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Janitorial Supervisor to lead custodial staff and ensure consistent, high-quality cleaning and facility services.

This role is ideal for a working supervisor who knows how to lead from the front—not simply delegate. The Janitorial Supervisor will assign and inspect work, manage staffing and attendance, coach employees, address performance concerns, maintain safety and quality standards, and build a strong working relationship with the customer.

• Have demonstrated experience supervising custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or environmental services staff.
• Know how to lead a team while also being willing to work alongside employees when operational needs require it.
• Have hands-on commercial floor-care experience, including stripping, waxing/finishing, buffing or burnishing.
• Can assign work, conduct inspections, identify deficiencies, and ensure corrective action is completed.
• Have experience managing schedules, call-outs, attendance, employee performance, and day-to-day staffing needs.
• Communicate professionally and confidently with employees, management, and customers.
• Know how to hold employees accountable while maintaining a respectful and productive workplace.
• Can respond calmly and effectively when service issues or customer concerns arise.

What You'll Do

• Provide day-to-day supervision and direction to custodial staff.
• Assign work and ensure appropriate coverage of assigned areas.
• Conduct routine quality inspections and follow up on deficiencies.
• Train and coach staff on proper cleaning methods, equipment use, safety, and service expectations.
• Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity, and employee performance.
• Address performance and conduct concerns in accordance with organizational policies.
• Coordinate responses to call-outs, staffing shortages, emergencies, and changing operational priorities.
• Perform and oversee commercial floor-care activities, including stripping, finishing/waxing, buffing/burnishing, scrubbing, and related procedures.
• Ensure proper use and storage of chemicals, equipment, PPE, and supplies.
• Maintain accurate operational records, inspection reports, work orders, and related documentation.
• Communicate regularly with customer/site representatives regarding service quality, priorities, and concerns.
• Work alongside the custodial team when necessary to ensure operational and customer needs are met.
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, professionalism, and excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or relevant training is a plus.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience in commercial janitorial, custodial, environmental services, housekeeping, facilities, or a related operation.
• 2–3+ years of direct supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated hands-on commercial floor-care experience.
• Experience with employee scheduling, attendance management, quality inspections, coaching, and performance management.
• Ability to communicate effectively with frontline employees, management, and customers.
• Ability to operate commercial cleaning and floor-care equipment safely.
• Basic computer skills and ability to complete required reports and documentation.
