PROOF OF FLU VACCINE REQUIRED 3 years of professional clinical instructor experience REQUIRED 5 years of professional nursing experience with minimum 2 years as staff RN in a specialty (ER, ICU, OB, OR) REQUIRED Maintains an ongoing, consortium-wide clinical education program for clinical staff to meet regulatory requirements with required certifications and competencies. Provides support services to internal/external customers under direct supervision of the MEMC CNO or designee, with latitude for independent decision making. Designs, teaches, and evaluates training programs. Acts as an internal training and organizational development consultant. Provides career development resources. Plans, implements, coordinates, and administers clinical specialty training programs, including human patient simulator training. Provides educational and development services to both professional and non-professional staff to maintain and develop competency. Oversees the trauma registrar program for the consortium to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements of the state. Works with the outlying clinics and Wrangell to support the trauma program and designation by assisting in setting up the program, overseeing the registries, and maintaining the trauma designations. Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job Researches and maintains current regulations and standards relevant to clinical practice area. Other Functions Supervisory Responsibilities Ensures educational activities are congruent with SEARHC s mission, goals, values, priorities, and resources. Promotes the SEARHC Seven Standards of Excellence. Is responsible for the coordination for regulatory requirements with certifications including BLS, PALS, ACLS, and TNCC. Maintains effective working relations with colleagues at all levels and from all professions within the consortium, ensuring effective communication at all times. Partners with site and department managers to identify clinical education needs and best practices for educational maintenance. Leads clinical education team to develop and coordinate planned educational programs and opportunities for all nursing staff. Partners with site managers and performance improvement to develop clinical competencies in defined areas of specialty. Works collaboratively with departments on education quality in relation to the clinical learning environment. Lead on the development and completion of audits in relation to clinical education and partners with Learning and Director to develop action plans to achieve the recommendations. Provides coordination and training resources for ACLS, PALS, BLS, NRP, Coast Guard Medivac and other programs. Provides coordination activities for classes that are requested by the NEC to be provided from outside contract instructors or companies. Oversees the IHS Emergency Pediatric Hybrid program for the consortium. Provides ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the educational activities to ensure that they maintain and enhance professional development that promotes the delivery of cost-effective, high-quality healthcare. Collaborates with others in the practice of nursing professional development at the institutional, local, regional, and state levels. Serves as the liaison for clinical education opportunities provided by SEARHC. Facilitates communication with other health care providers in the community related to continuing education opportunities and coordination of services. Participates in and uses evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, nursing practice, and patient outcomes. Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning, delivering, and managing nursing professional development activities. Oversees SEARHC s trauma registrar program Works with trauma registrars to maintain each facility s trauma registry Works with each trauma coordinator to meet state requirements and maintain designation Assists outlying clinics and Wrangell in becoming trauma designations. Works with finance on trauma billing throughout the consortium. Assists in trauma education for each trauma designation facility. Attends and participates in at least 50% of Nurse Executive Committee meetings Applies information presented in meetings. Participates in Nursing Service s goal setting. Initiates discussion with Clinical Nurse Educator regarding area or department issues. Completes annual competencies and evaluation materials. Maintains certifications and licensure Refers unresolved problems with patients/visitors/co-workers to Chief Nursing Officer for resolution Addresses employee concerns consistent with Human Resources Policy. Supports Clinical Educators in development and implementation of their programs. Supervises the trauma registrar program throughout the consortium at the trauma designation sites. Assists the outlying clinics in their trauma program designation/recertification, trauma education on policies and procedures. Coordinates schedules of those acting as instructors of classes (e.g., BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and TNCC) throughout the consortium. Supervises the IHS Emergency Pediatric Hybrid Program at MEMC and assist outlying clinics in rotating staff through the IHS Emergency Pediatric Hybrid simulation lab. Supervisory responsibilities are required. Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required. Direct Hire must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date. Agency staff must have an active Alaska license. ACLS, BLS, PALS required and TNCC instructor certification preferred High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience Required 3 years of professional clinical instructor experience. 5 years of professional nursing experience with minimum 2 years as staff RN in a specialty (ER, ICU, OB, OR). Prior Emergency Room/Trauma and/or Remote Rural experience preferred. May substitute professional clinical instructor experience for clinical nursing experience on a year-for-year basis. Two years of supervisory experience required. Knowledge of Professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, diagnosis, processes, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population. Specialized knowledge in the nursing management and care of adult and geriatric patient problems and conditions is required. As well as Hospital and Consortium Policies and Procedures to fully comply with and instruct others on proper application of these measures. Relevant educational content and appropriate methods of delivery and the ability to develop and facilitate relevant and effective education for adult learners. Alaska State Trauma Program and trauma education. Alaska State Registrar program. SEARHC trauma protocols and procedures. Skills in Collaborating in developing and evaluating standards of care for patients and training modalities that are evidence-based. Ensures planned educational activities are implemented. Conducts comprehensive evaluations of all educational activities. Oral and written communication. Enters and retrieves patient data accurately. Verbally communicates findings with healthcare team. Ability to Develop training programs that follow curriculum standards. Create specific training programs applicable to all levels of care provided by the consortium. Provide a positive training environment that reinforces current nursing practice that is evidence-based, providing for continuity, standards of care, and are family centered. Initiate treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders and ACLS. Provide guidance and leadership. Works cooperatively with others by establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and other healthcare team members.
