Product Engineering SpecialistWe are looking for a talented Product Engineering Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI.In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:Drive high-quality product decisions by synthesizing input from technical managers, project leaders, manufacturing engineers, and supplier partners into clear, actionable recommendations.Advance projects efficiently without compromising quality by applying academic foundations and hands-on experience to make sound day-to-day technical, analytical, and coordination decisions.Enable cross-discipline execution by defining and coordinating analysis, testing, and work instructions that ensure aligned progress across engineering and manufacturing functions.Strengthen decision-making rigor through effective application and continuous improvement of ESW, iDFMEA, FIRG, and structured problem-solving tools such as 7-step problem solving and design review checklists.Provide independent technical leadership by owning smaller business-impact projects or complex components/systems with ambiguity and full accountability to the project team.Execute and mature engineering processes by independently applying established and emerging work systems while building deeper product and technology expertise.Build team capability and capacity by coordinating technicians and student employees, and transferring knowledge to less-experienced engineers through direct or indirect leadership.Influence technical direction as a recognized specialist by guiding project teams, improving functional discipline processes at the site level, and continually developing critical competencies.External Qualifications and CompetenciesTo be successful in this role you will need the following:Lead end-to-end product development execution across the full lifecycle, aligning system requirements, technical profiles, quality targets, and project resources.Drive product reliability through proactive failure-mode avoidance, identifying system interfaces, functional interactions, and root causes using structured risk analysis methods.Influence design decisions by applying modeling, simulation, and analytical tools to predict system, subsystem, and component-level performance.Define, control, and integrate system interfaces to ensure requirements compliance, executing integration plans that enabled early issue detection and resolution.Solve complex product issues using data-driven, customer-protective problem-solving processes, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.Manage product verification and validation, negotiating requirements against capability, assessing test and simulation results, and documenting technical recommendations.Establish configuration and change management discipline, maintaining product baselines and controlling changes from concept through obsolescence.Produce high-quality technical documentation and communicate effectively across cross-functional teams, enabling knowledge transfer, informing decisions, and producing consistent results.EducationCollege, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.ExperiencePrior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.Additional Responsibilities Unique to this PositionPerforming engineering analysis & design necessary for prototype, production, application and testing of axle/suspension, components and systems. This will include the use of CAD/CAE tools such as Creo/Pro-Engineer, Creo Simulate/Pro-Mechanica.Manage all aspects of engineering products according to customer requirements with focus on coordinating project timing, costs, test plans and prototype builds.Create preliminary concepts of components/systems and work with designers to release detailed drawing package.BSME (MSME preferred) with minimum of 4 years of full-time direct, practical experience including:Experience with Off-highway/specialty vehicle products and systemsDesign experience with structural components like casting & forgingExcellent understanding of static analysis, fatigue analysis & familiar with fundamentals of dynamic & kinematic studiesKnowledge and understanding of vehicle dynamics is preferredIdentify, verify and implement solutions to warranty or quality problems that affect product performanceHands on experience with designing large castings, Ansys will be an added advantage.About UsCummins is an equal opportunity employer.
